📌PDRRMO Convenes LDRRMOs to Enhance Disaster Preparedness
Today, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), headed by Shaminoden M. Sambitory, convened all Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers (LDRRMOs) for a coordination meeting at the Executive Conference Room of the Provincial Capitol. The activity aimed to align provincial and municipal efforts in strengthening disaster resilience and operational readiness across the province.
Presided over by Governor Mamintal “Bombit” Alonto Adiong Jr., the meeting provided updates on key areas, including staffing, DRRM office operations, equipment and logistics, rescue vehicles, Early Warning Systems (EWS), evacuation shelters, relief goods and stockpile capacity, and the Operations Center (OpCen).
The program began with a comprehensive presentation on the province’s current disaster management capabilities, highlighting critical operational components such as human resources, infrastructure, logistics, and emergency preparedness.
Updates were presented on staffing levels and the continuing professionalization of DRRM personnel, as well as the status of the Provincial DRRM Office and its Operations Center (OpCen), which serves as the hub for emergency coordination. An inventory of rescue vehicles and specialized equipment was also discussed, along with the maintenance and functionality of Early Warning Systems in high-risk areas. In terms of humanitarian response, the office reported on evacuation shelter standards and the province’s stockpile capacity for relief goods to ensure timely assistance during disasters.
The meeting also recognized various local government units and offices as Gawad KALASAG awardees, highlighting their exemplary performance in disaster risk reduction and humanitarian response and setting a benchmark for other municipalities to further strengthen their local DRRM programs.
An open forum, presided over by Governor Adiong, provided an opportunity for municipal DRRM officers to raise concerns and identify operational gaps, including the need for advanced responder training, additional all-terrain rescue vehicles, and improved communication systems in geographically isolated areas. The Governor reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to addressing these needs through strategic planning, funding support, and resource allocation.
The meeting concluded with a call for strengthened collaboration, emphasizing that effective disaster response relies on seamless coordination between provincial leadership and municipal frontliners.
