On August 27, 2026, the Mahayag School of Arts and Trades (MSAT), identified as the Showcase School of the Municipality of Mahayag for the Simulation Exercise (SimEx), conducted a Coordination and Planning Conference on the National Simultaneous School Drill on Active Attack Incidents. The activity brought together school personnel, partner agencies, local authorities, and key stakeholders to strengthen preparedness, coordination, and response mechanisms during emergency situations.

With the theme “Preparedness Saves Lives, Coordination Builds Resilience,” the activity emphasized the importance of proper planning, clear communication, defined roles, and coordinated action to ensure the safety and protection of learners, teachers, personnel, and the entire school community.

Through the continued collaboration of the school, law enforcement agencies, local government, and other partners, Mahayag strengthens its commitment to building safer, more prepared, and resilient schools and communities.

On August 24, 2026, the LGU Mahayag Department Heads and Functionaries participated in a productive learning session on Cybersecurity Awareness, Data Privacy, and Digital Parenting held at the Senior Citizen Building, Mahayag, Zamboanga del Sur.

The activity featured interactive discussions on responsible technology use, data protection, cybersecurity awareness, online safety, and protection against digital threats. The session also highlighted Digital Parenting, emphasizing the important role of parents, guardians, and communities in guiding children toward the safe, responsible, respectful, and balanced use of digital devices, social media,online platforms, and the internet.

As part of the activity, the participants also completed the online application process for their electronic signatures (e-signatures), supporting LGU Mahayag’s continuing transition toward secure, efficient, and paperless government transactions.

The activity reflects LGU Mahayag’s commitment to strengthening digital literacy, cybersecurity, data privacy, digital parenting, and digital transformation toward safer communities and more efficient public service delivery.

"Strengthening Standards, Ensuring Safe and Quality Healthcare for Every Mahayagnon."

The Mahayag Municipal Hospital, headed by Dr. Jerald O. Ramos, Chief of Hospital, underwent its Annual Hospital Licensing Assessment conducted by the Department of Health (DOH) Regional Licensing and Enforcement Division (RLED) Team RO-9 on August 13, 2026.

The assessment included an on-site inspection and validation of the hospital’s facilities, services, equipment, records, and compliance with applicable DOH standards and licensing requirements. Various areas and departments were evaluated to help ensure the continued delivery of safe, quality, and responsive healthcare services to the community.

The activity demonstrates the continuing commitment of the Local Government Unit of Mahayag and Mahayag Municipal Hospital to strengthening healthcare standards, maintaining regulatory compliance, and continuously improving the quality of health services provided to every Mahayagnon. 🩺❤️

The LGU extends its appreciation to the DOH RLED Team RO-9 for their valuable guidance, technical assistance, and recommendations, as well as to the hospital personnel for their cooperation and dedication throughout the assessment.

The 2026 PDAO Summit, held on July 29, 2026, in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur, gathered local government officials, Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office (PDAO) personnel, partner agencies, and disability advocates under the theme "Rights First, Legislation Forward: Strengthening PDAO Functionality for Inclusive Governance in Western Mindanao."

The summit featured a series of meaningful discussions focused on strengthening disability-inclusive governance. Among the featured speakers was our Municipal Mayor, Hon. Manuel T. Saladaga, who delivered a presentation on "The Political Champion (Local Governance & Legislation)," emphasizing the critical role of local chief executives in promoting inclusive policies and ensuring that the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities remain a priority in local governance.

The event also included an Open Forum, where participants exchanged ideas, shared experiences, and discussed practical solutions to strengthen disability-inclusive programs and services. The summit concluded with a Pledge of Commitment, led by Hon. Manuel T. Saladaga, reaffirming the collective dedication of local leaders and stakeholders to uphold the rights, dignity, and empowerment of persons with disabilities through responsive, accessible, and inclusive governance.

The Municipality of Mahayag proudly joined the nationwide observance of the 48th National Disability Rights Week on July 28, 2026, at the Municipal Gymnasium, reaffirming its commitment to promoting the rights, welfare, and inclusion of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

Representing Provincial Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PPDAO) Head Miriam Acosta-Llanos, Haneza Corpuz delivered a message highlighting the office's continued commitment to advancing the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities. She encouraged PWDs to remain active advocates for inclusion and to participate meaningfully in building stronger and more inclusive communities.

Meanwhile, Municipal PDAO Head Bellanida Bañas emphasized that Mahayag's recognition as the Top 1 Most PWD-Friendly Municipality in the Province of Zamboanga del Sur reflects the shared dedication of the local government, partner agencies, organizations, and the PWD community. She encouraged everyone to continue working together to sustain accessible, inclusive, and responsive programs and services for every person with disability.

The celebration served as a reminder that disability inclusion is a shared responsibility. Through collaboration, respect, and equal opportunities, LGU Mahayag remains steadfast in building a community where every person is empowered, valued, and given the opportunity to thrive.

The Municipality of Mahayag, through its Municipal Officials, Department Heads, and Gender Point System (GPS) Members, successfully participated in the Capacity Development Training on Gender and Development (GAD): Refresher on GAD Concepts, Gender Mainstreaming, Gender Analysis, and the Use of Gender Analysis (GA) Tools held on June 20-22 2026 at Chali Resort and Conference Center, Cagayan de Oro City.

The training enhanced participants' knowledge and skills in integrating gender-responsive approaches into local governance, planning, budgeting, policy formulation, program implementation, and service delivery. It also strengthened their understanding of gender equality, women's empowerment, and the importance of creating inclusive and responsive public services for all.

Through continuous learning and capacity development, LGU Mahayag remains committed to promoting gender equality, empowering communities, and ensuring that every program, project, and activity contributes to a more inclusive, equitable, and gender-responsive municipality.

The Women Department Heads and Functionaries of the Local Government Unit of Mahayag actively participated in the One-Day Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Course conducted by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Region IX in partnership with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) on July 16, 2026, in observance of National Disaster Resilience Month. The activity was also attended by Hon. Elmer C. Perez, Hon. Hazel A. Caylan, representatives from National Government Agencies, and Punong Barangays, demonstrating a collective commitment to strengthening disaster preparedness and resilience in the municipality.

The training provided participants with practical knowledge and skills on disaster preparedness, prevention and mitigation, emergency response, recovery, climate change adaptation, and community resilience through interactive discussions and hands-on activities. By empowering women leaders and strengthening collaboration among local officials and partner agencies, the LGU of Mahayag continues to promote a culture of preparedness and build safer, stronger, and more resilient communities.

The Municipality of Mahayag proudly hosted the 3rd Quarter Provincial Assembly of the Vice Mayors' League of the Philippines (VMLP) – Zamboanga del Sur Chapter on July 16, 2026, at Rudhil's Place Resort and Sports Complex, welcoming vice mayors from the different municipalities in the province.

Hosted by Municipal Vice Mayor Hon. Lester Ace Saycon Espina, the assembly served as a venue for meaningful discussions on legislative priorities, current governance issues, and collaborative initiatives aimed at strengthening local legislation, enhancing public service delivery, and promoting good governance among local government units.

As part of the assembly's social responsibility initiative, the participating vice mayors also conducted a feeding program at Kaangayan Elementary School, providing nutritious meals to schoolchildren and sharing moments of care and encouragement. The outreach activity reflected the commitment of local leaders to extend their service beyond policymaking by supporting the well-being of communities, especially the youth.

The successful hosting of the provincial assembly highlighted the Municipality of Mahayag's commitment to fostering collaboration among local government leaders and advancing programs that contribute to inclusive, responsive, and sustainable development throughout Zamboanga del Sur.
