THE TROPICAL DEPRESSION OUTSIDE THE PHILIPPINE AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY (PAR) CONTINUES TO MOVE NORTHWESTWARD OVER THE PHILIPPINE SEA.
Location of Center (10:00 AM): The center of the Tropical Depression was estimated based on all available data at 1,855 km East of Southeastern Luzon (OUTSIDE PAR) (15.2°N, 138.9°E).
Intensity: Maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 70 km/h, and central pressure of 1002 hPa.
Present Movement: Northwestward at 40 km/h
Extent of Tropical Cyclone Winds: Strong winds extend outwards up to 200 km from the center
GENERAL OUTLOOK FOR THE FORECAST PERIOD
• This Tropical Depression is forecast to move generally west northwestward throughout most of the forecast period. It is forecast to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by tomorrow (24 September) morning. Once inside the PAR, the tropical cyclone will be given the local name QUEENIE. Inside the PAR, this tropical cyclone will move generally northwestward while near Extreme Northern Luzon over the weekend.
• This tropical cyclone may intensify into a Tropical Storm by tomorrow prior to its entry to the PAR and may reach Typhoon category by weekend. Beyond the 5-day forecast, further intensification is possible.
• This tropical cyclone is not expected to directly affect the weather and sea conditions over the country in the next 3 days.
Considering these developments, the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to continue monitoring for updates related to this tropical cyclone.
Unless there is an intermediate issuance, the next tropical cyclone advisory will be issued at 11:00 PM today.
