Gulayan Para sa Sarangan Conducts First Judging in Barangay Kiayap
The Gulayan Para sa Sarangan conducted its First Judging in Barangay Kiayap, Maitum, highlighting the efforts of local farmers in promoting vegetable production and maintaining productive community gardens.
Representing Maitum was the Kiayap-Malalag Farmers Association (KIMAFACO), headed by Chairman Johnny Cuaresma. The association showcased its garden as part of the assessment under the program.
The judging activity was conducted by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg) in coordination with the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist (OMAg). The assessment focused on the implementation and maintenance of the community vegetable garden and the farmers’ efforts toward sustainable food production.
The panel of judges was composed of Dr. Ray Rodriguez, Chief of the Regional Crop Protection Center (RCPC); Mr. Harrold Ramos; and Mr. Archie Dela Cruz.
The activity was led by Project Manager Adelito R. Nilo, with the participation and support of local agriculture personnel and members of the farmers’ association.
Through the Gulayan Para sa Sarangan initiative, the local government continues to encourage communities and farmers’ organizations to strengthen backyard and community gardening, promote food security, and support sustainable agricultural practices in Maitum.
