Gulayan Para sa Sarangan Conducts First Judging in Barangay Kiayap

The Gulayan Para sa Sarangan conducted its First Judging in Barangay Kiayap, Maitum, highlighting the efforts of local farmers in promoting vegetable production and maintaining productive community gardens.

Representing Maitum was the Kiayap-Malalag Farmers Association (KIMAFACO), headed by Chairman Johnny Cuaresma. The association showcased its garden as part of the assessment under the program.

The judging activity was conducted by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg) in coordination with the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist (OMAg). The assessment focused on the implementation and maintenance of the community vegetable garden and the farmers’ efforts toward sustainable food production.

The panel of judges was composed of Dr. Ray Rodriguez, Chief of the Regional Crop Protection Center (RCPC); Mr. Harrold Ramos; and Mr. Archie Dela Cruz.

The activity was led by Project Manager Adelito R. Nilo, with the participation and support of local agriculture personnel and members of the farmers’ association.

Through the Gulayan Para sa Sarangan initiative, the local government continues to encourage communities and farmers’ organizations to strengthen backyard and community gardening, promote food security, and support sustainable agricultural practices in Maitum.

The Municipality of Maitum officially opened the Maitum Youth Festival 2026 on August 7, 2026, gathering young people from across the municipality for a celebration of youth participation, sports, culture, leadership, and community engagement.

Anchored on the theme “Championing the Grassroots,” this year’s festival highlights the role of the youth in strengthening communities while creating meaningful opportunities for them to learn, connect, and participate.

The opening ceremonies marked the beginning of a series of activities lined up for the youth, including sports, cultural activities, youth development programs, and other community-centered events.

The Maitum Youth Festival 2026 will run until August 12, 2026, bringing together the youth in a week-long celebration of their talents, aspirations, and contributions to the community.

13 MDRRMO Responders Complete Swiftwater Rescue Training

Thirteen (13) responders from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Maitum successfully completed the Swiftwater Rescue Training conducted on August 4–8, 2026.

The five-day training was facilitated by the Bureau of Fire Protection – Special Rescue Force (BFP-SRF) XII, providing participants with essential knowledge and practical skills in swiftwater rescue, response, and emergency operations in fast-moving water environments.

The training aimed to further strengthen the capability and preparedness of Maitum’s emergency responders, particularly in addressing water-related incidents and disasters. Through hands-on exercises and specialized rescue techniques, the participants gained valuable skills that can be applied during actual emergency and rescue operations.

The successful completion of the training reflects the Municipality of Maitum’s continuing commitment to enhancing its disaster response capacity and ensuring a faster, safer, and more effective response to emergencies and disasters.

The Maitum Junior Officials 2026 were formally recognized during the regular Flag Ceremony of the Local Government Unit of Maitum, marking their participation in the Junior Officials Program of the 3rd Maitum Youth Festival 2026.

Anchored on the principles of Republic Act No. 10742, or the Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act of 2015, the initiative provides young people with meaningful opportunities to experience local governance, develop leadership skills, and understand the roles and responsibilities of public officials.

Through their respective counterpart positions, the Junior Officials are given a platform to actively participate, learn from public service, and appreciate the importance of youth involvement in community development and decision-making.

This initiative reflects the spirit of “Championing the Grassroots”—creating spaces where young people can be heard, empowered, and prepared to become responsible leaders and active partners in building a stronger Maitum.

The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation President of Maitum, Hon. Kenneth Lance Rocapor, has been recognized as a Natatanging Lingkod Bayan under the Gawad Dangal ng Kulturat Integridad ng Lahing Pilipino – PAMAMALAKAYA 2026, in the Sangguniang Kabataan Category.

The award recognizes his commitment to youth leadership, public service, and meaningful community engagement, particularly in implementing programs and initiatives that empower the youth, promote culture and the arts.

The prestigious recognition was personally presented by Bennylito R. Reyes, EdD., Executive Director of the Philippine Artsland Culture Educators Society, honoring Hon. Rocapor’s dedication to serving the youth and the community with integrity, passion, and purpose.

This recognition further inspires the commitment to Champion the Grassroots—empowering young people, strengthening youth participation, and creating meaningful opportunities for the next generation of community leaders.

MAITUM WINS RCEF EXCELLENCE AWARD – MEDIUM SCALE CATEGORY

Maitum has been recognized as a recipient of the RCEF Excellence Award – Medium Scale Category for its outstanding implementation of the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) Seed Program under Republic Act No. 11203, covering the 2025 Wet Season and 2026 Dry Season.

The award, conferred by the Department of Agriculture–Philippine Rice Research Institute (DA–PhilRice), recognizes the municipality’s exemplary efforts in ensuring the effective implementation and delivery of the RCEF Seed Program to qualified rice farmers.

Maitum earned the recognition under the Medium Scale Category, which covers municipal local government units with a certified seed allocation of more than 1,000 bags but below 5,000 bags.

The award is part of the Mindanao Cluster, Municipal/City Level recognition, highlighting Maitum’s commitment as a local government unit in Region XII – SOCCSKSARGEN to strengthening rice production, supporting local farmers, and promoting the use of quality certified seeds.

This achievement reflects the strong collaboration among the Municipal Government of Maitum, the Department of Agriculture, DA–PhilRice, and the municipality’s rice farmers in advancing agricultural development and improving the productivity and competitiveness of the local rice sector.

TURNOVER AND BLESSING OF NEWLY ACQUIRED BARANGAY PATROL VEHICLES

The Municipality of Maitum conducted the turnover and blessing of four newly acquired Barangay Patrol Vehicles (Utility Vans) intended to strengthen the mobility and operational capacity of the recipient barangays. The vehicles were turned over to Barangays Batian, Tuanadatu, Maguling, and Pangi.

The blessing ceremony was officiated by Rev. Fr. Dennis Gamo, marking the formal deployment of the vehicles to their respective barangays.

The newly acquired utility vans are expected to be utilized primarily for barangay patrol operations and peacekeeping activities, in support of maintaining peace and order, ensuring community safety, and responding to the needs of residents. The vehicles will also support other authorized barangay activities and service delivery in accordance with the provisions of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA).

The recipient barangays are expected to ensure the proper, responsible, and authorized use of the vehicles, as well as their regular care and maintenance as government assets. This initiative reflects the Municipality of Maitum’s continued commitment to strengthening barangay-level peacekeeping efforts and bringing responsive public service closer to the communities.

New DILG Sarangani Provincial Director Pays Courtesy Visit to LGU Maitum

The Municipality of Maitum welcomed the newly appointed Provincial Director of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Sarangani, Ian Jon S. Clemente, during a courtesy visit held at the Maitum Municipal Hall.

Provincial Director Clemente was accompanied by Annalyn S. Doceo, Outcome Manager, and Harriet S. Destacamento, LGOO II. They were warmly received by Municipal Mayor James Mark B. Reganit, together with the department heads and section heads of the Local Government Unit of Maitum.

The courtesy visit served as an opportunity to strengthen collaboration between the DILG and the Municipal Government of Maitum, reaffirming their shared commitment to effective local governance, responsive public service, and the successful implementation of government programs and initiatives.

Mayor Reganit expressed his appreciation for the visit and conveyed the municipality’s continued support for DILG’s programs and advocacies. The meeting also provided a venue to discuss priority initiatives and reinforce the partnership in promoting good governance and sustainable local development.

The Municipality of Maitum looks forward to a productive working relationship with Provincial Director Clemente and the DILG Sarangani Provincial Office in advancing programs that will benefit the people of Maitum.
