This year, Makato proudly showcases one of its most cherished cultural treasuresโ€”"Makato Banwa Ko," the municipality's official hymn.

The Makato Banwa Ko is a song composed by Mr. Jose T. Terencio, a well-known composer, musician, and one of the prominent figures of Makato. He single-handedly crafted the lyrics and musical composition of the song, which was completed in February 1967. The Makato Banwa Ko was a product of his patriotism and dedication to his beloved municipality. Like his other musical masterpiece, the Makato Banwa Ko was also sung, and it became one of the songs played the most during social gatherings. The song was also sung back then by gatherings of politicians and prominent people in town. It was normal for someone to hear Makato Banwa Ko during such meetings and events. Mr. Terencio and his band, the Kabugwason Band, performed the song.

In 2010, the Makato Banwa Ko was officially declared as the municipal hymn of Makato. The ordinance was sponsored by former SB Member Hon. Renato T. Tordecillas and was discussed in the Sangguniang Bayan's session on November 12, 2010, as recorded in the minutes of the aforementioned session. An ordinance was then made approving the proposal in which there were no objections made. The ordinance was Ordinance No. 10-112, adopting Makato Banwa Ko as the official municipal hymn of Makato, Aklan.
