The 𝐌𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 (MENRO) continues its commitment to coastal conservation through our weekly mangrove growing activity, with this month’s last Thursday activity held at Brgy. Tuyan, Malapatan, Sarangani Province.

This meaningful activity was made possible through the strong support and active participation of our valued partners—the Office of the Municipal Vice Mayor, headed by our very active Municipal Vice Mayor, Hon. Jean D. Delos Santos; Community Environment and Natural Resources Office of Glan, headed by CENR Officer For. Franklin Lebrilla; the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG); Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP); and our dedicated Bantay Dagat.

From one seedling to an entire mangrove forest, every planting activity is a step toward a stronger, safer, and more sustainable Malapatan.🌱🍃

As part of the Municipality’s continuing efforts to maintain cleanliness and promote proper solid waste management, the 𝐌𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 (MENRO) conducted garbage collection along the national highway.

The public is reminded to practice proper waste disposal and take responsibility for the waste they generate. Please do not throw or leave garbage anywhere, as improper waste disposal can contribute to pollution and affect the cleanliness and safety of our community.

The Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged (TUPAD) Workers actively conducting roadside clearing and cleaning activities, particularly along drainage canals and surrounding areas.

Their work includes removing overgrown vegetation, branches, and accumulated debris to improve water flow, prevent blockages, and maintain a clean and safe environment.

A 𝗵𝗮𝘄𝗸𝘀𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗮 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗹𝗲 (𝐸𝑟𝑒𝑡𝑚𝑜𝑐ℎ𝑒𝑙𝑦𝑠 𝑖𝑚𝑏𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑡𝑎) was sighted by Mrs. Dina Rondina Caning, a resident of Purok 5A, Poblacion, Malapatan, Sarangani Province. The residents reported that the turtle was in good condition and was safely released back into the sea.

Upon receiving the report, the 𝐌𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 (MENRO) promptly inspected the area for possible nesting activity, resulting in the discovery of 131 sea turtle eggs. The identified nesting area was subsequently enclosed with a protective net to safeguard the eggs from disturbance.

Based on available local records, this marks the first documented nesting activity of a hawksbill sea turtle in the area, highlighting the site's nesting habitat for marine turtles and the importance of its continued protection.

The hawksbill sea turtle (𝐸𝑟𝑒𝑡𝑚𝑜𝑐ℎ𝑒𝑙𝑦𝑠 𝑖𝑚𝑏𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑡𝑎) is classified as Critically Endangered species under DENR Administrative Order (DAO) 2019-09 and is protected by Republic Act 9147, commonly known as the Wildlife Conservation and Protection Act. These protected marine species plays an important role in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems. The public is encouraged to report sea turtle sightings and nesting activities to the proper authorities and to refrain from disturbing turtles, nests, and eggs.

Aligned with the Municipality’s continuing commitment to environmental protection and sustainable natural resource management, the 𝐌𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 (MENRO) actively participated in the Coastal Clean-up and Communication, Education, and Public Awareness (CEPA) Activity spearheaded by the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office of Glan (CENRO-Glan) on August 20, 2026, focusing on the protection and conservation of mangrove areas. This was conducted alongside its weekly mangrove-growing activity at Purok Bahasuan, Sapu Masla, Malapatan, Sarangani Province.

These initiatives contributed to the rehabilitation, protection, and sustainable management of our coastal ecosystems. The mangrove-growing activity played a vital role in preventing coastal erosion, providing essential habitats for marine life, and strengthening the resilience of coastal communities against the impacts of climate change.

Through sustained environmental efforts and strengthened partnerships, the Municipality continued to promote a cleaner, greener, and more resilient Malapatan for present and future generations. 🌱💚

The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), together with the Office of the Municipal Vice Mayor headed by Nanay Vice Hon. Jean Delos Santos, the Philippine Coast Guard, PNP-Maritime Group, and Bantay Dagat, once again joined hands for the weekly Mangrove Thursday Activity.

Through mangrove planting and mangrove de-clogging, our dedicated teams worked together to restore, protect, and maintain our precious coastal ecosystems

These simple yet meaningful actions remind us that environmental protection is a shared responsibility. Every seedling planted and every mangrove area maintained brings us closer to a healthier and more sustainable community.

The 𝐌𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 (MENRO) conducted a tree pruning, branch trimming, and clearing maintenance operation at Purok Lout, Poblacion, Malapatan, Sarangani Province. The activity focuses on clearing overgrown branches along roads and nearby areas to maintain a clear and accessible roadway for motorists, pedestrians, and other road users.

The operation also includes the trimming and removal of branches that obstruct or cover streetlights. Clearing these branches helps ensure that streetlights provide proper illumination along the road, improving visibility and contributing to safer travel, particularly during nighttime.

A 𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐧 (𝑀𝑎𝑙𝑎𝑦𝑜𝑝𝑦𝑡ℎ𝑜𝑛 𝑟𝑒𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑠), locally known as "sawa," was successfully rescued and turned over to the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Glan.

The phyton was captured by Mr. Jose Joel Busgano, a resident of Purok Masagana, Lun Masla, Malapatan, Sarangani Province. Upon receiving the report, the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) immediately responded and safely retrieved the python before turning it over to CENRO Glan for proper handling and documentation.

The reticulated python (𝑀𝑎𝑙𝑎𝑦𝑜𝑝𝑦𝑡ℎ𝑜𝑛 𝑟𝑒𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑠) is classified as an 𝗢𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀 (𝗢𝗧𝗦) under 𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗥 𝗔𝗱𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗢𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼. 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟵-𝟬𝟵. This classification recognizes that the species faces increasing threats from habitat loss and overcollection and may qualify for listing as Vulnerable if these pressures continue.
