The Malaybalay City Tourism Office participated in the successful conduct of the 2nd Batch of the Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) process for tourism-related establishments located in Barangay Kibalabag, held on May 21, 2026 at the Kibalabag Covered Court, Malaybalay City.
The activity served as an important platform for dialogue, consultation, and collaboration among stakeholders to ensure that tourism development initiatives within ancestral domains are aligned with cultural preservation, environmental sustainability, and the rights and welfare of Indigenous Peoples (IPs). The FPIC process is a vital requirement under the Indigenous Peoplesโ Rights Act (IPRA), ensuring that affected indigenous communities are properly informed and consulted regarding proposed tourism and development projects within their ancestral lands.
The consultation was attended by representatives from the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) led by Mr. Ronaldo Baya-on, the BUHITA Tribal Elders headed by Datu Warnit Lumista, and the Barangay Council of Barangay Kibalabag under the leadership of Hon. Jerry Sulinay. Their presence highlighted the strong commitment of all sectors toward responsible and culturally sensitive tourism development in the area.
Among the tourism establishments and projects involved in the consultation were Red Rock Ridge, Marilag Resort, Cloudscape Nature Park, and the upcoming Farm Tourism Site of PERA MPC Malaybalay. These tourism sites are envisioned to contribute to the cityโs growing eco-tourism and agri-tourism industry while ensuring that development remains respectful of local culture, traditions, and ancestral domain governance.
The Malaybalay City Tourism Office reaffirmed its commitment to promoting inclusive, sustainable, and culturally grounded tourism initiatives anchored on the cityโs tourism brand, โSAKA ta Malaybalay,โ while strengthening partnerships with indigenous communities, government agencies, and private stakeholders for the responsible growth of the local tourism industry.
