LGU and DOST personnel successfully completed Day 3 of the three-day Drone Training under the SARAI Program on August 20, 2026, at FlowerLand, Dahilayan, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon, gaining greater confidence and practical skills in maneuvering and operating drones. The final day of the training provided participants with an opportunity to apply their knowledge through hands-on flight exercises, addressing the need for capable and responsible users who can maximize drone technology for agricultural monitoring, site assessment, and data-driven decision-making.

With DOST serving as an enabler and technology partner, the training brought together stakeholders committed to advancing farming and community development through SARAI and other emerging technologies. Beyond technical competencies, the three-day activity fostered collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and stronger connections among participating LGUs, DOST personnel, and technology partners, creating opportunities for sustained cooperation in addressing agricultural and monitoring needs. By combining technical capacity, practical application, and stakeholder collaboration, the training strengthens the participants’ readiness to use drone technology for more efficient field monitoring, improved agricultural planning, enhanced productivity, and climate-smart interventions, contributing to more innovative, competitive, and sustainable farming communities.

LGU and DOST personnel are strengthening their capability to safely operate drones and transform aerial data into useful information through Day 2 of the three-day Drone Training under the SARAI Program held on August 19, 2026, in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon. The training addresses the need for competent drone operators who can conduct safe and efficient flights while generating reliable aerial data to support agricultural monitoring, planning, and decision-making.

With DOST serving as an enabler and technology partner, technical experts from Agile Technologies, Inc. guided participants through basic flight maneuvers and hands-on drone operations at the Local Government of Manolo Fortich’s Demo Farm, providing an actual field setting for participants to practice controlling and maneuvering the drone. The session also covered data processing and the presentation of captured flights through 3D visualization, enabling participants to understand how aerial images can be transformed into useful information for field assessment and analysis. Participants further learned about the Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) Certification Processing Guide and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) written examination, contributing to their improved performance in the CAAP mock test and strengthening their knowledge for certification requirements. By building skills across flight operations, data processing, visualization, and aviation safety, the training empowers participating LGUs and DOST personnel to harness drone technology for more efficient agricultural monitoring, evidence-based planning, improved productivity, and climate-smart interventions, supporting more innovative, competitive, and sustainable farming communities.

Selected local government units and DOST provincial teams are gaining practical knowledge and skills in drone technology through the three-day Drone Training under the SARAI Program, which started on August 18, 2026, at Saddle Ridge, Dahilayan, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon, with field demonstration and flight testing conducted at Alomah’s Place, Dahilayan. The training responds to the growing need for accessible and reliable technologies that can support data-driven planning, monitoring, and decision-making in agriculture and other community development initiatives.

With DOST serving as an enabler and technology partner, Day 1 covered the presentation of training objectives, an overview of SARAI systems and technologies, introduction to DJI Enterprise drone technology, product presentation and drone familiarization, proper safekeeping and handling of drone hardware and software, and Drone 101: General Knowledge, followed by hands-on field demonstration and flight testing. By strengthening participants’ technical competence and promoting the safe and responsible use of drones, the activity enhances their capacity to generate timely and useful data, improve field monitoring, increase operational efficiency, and support climate-smart and technology-driven agricultural interventions. Through continued capacity building and responsible technology adoption, participating LGUs and DOST provinces are better positioned to harness drone technology for innovation, productivity, sustainability, and more responsive services to farming communities.

Talaandig artists in the Daraghuyan Ancestral Domain in Dalwangan, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon, are gaining opportunities to enhance their traditional craft, improve production efficiency, and strengthen their livelihoods through appropriate technology. On August 14, 2026, a traditional ritual led by Tribal Leader Adelina "Bae Inatlawan" Tarino was conducted before the training, honoring the community’s cultural practices and setting a meaningful foundation for the activity. The artists then participated in a hands-on training on the proper use of a wood lathe machine to produce quality musical drums more efficiently while preserving the craftsmanship and cultural identity of their products.

Under the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) Project, Bukidnon artist Mr. Jay Mar G. Agtang was invited as the resource person to provide hands-on instruction and share his expertise in wood lathe operation and musical drum production. Through the partnership of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and Bukidnon State University (BukSU), the Indigenous Peoples (IP) community gained practical skills and technical support responsive to their production needs. By integrating appropriate technology with traditional Talaandig artistry and cultural practices, the intervention helps reduce production time, improve product quality and consistency, and increase the artists’ capacity to respond to market opportunities. Beyond enhancing productivity, the initiative supports the preservation and promotion of Talaandig cultural craftsmanship while creating pathways toward sustainable livelihoods, greater competitiveness, and continued economic empowerment of the IP community.

Farmers and agricultural communities across Bukidnon are set to benefit from improved access to timely and reliable weather and climate information as the province strengthens its capacity to manage climate-related risks in agriculture. On August 17, 2026, at Bean Zone Cafe, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon, the Ceremonial Turnover of Funds was held for the project “Advancing Climate-Smart Agriculture in Bukidnon through the Installation of Automated Weather Stations and Adoption of SARAI CL-SEAMS” under the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) Program. While the project is designed to benefit agricultural communities across the province, nine LGUs - Malaybalay City, Impasug-ong, Kitaotao, Kalilangan, Kadingilan, Lantapan, Maramag, Quezon, and Talakag, are formally collaborating with DOST and the Provincial Government of Bukidnon through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the project’s implementation. Strategic sites within these areas were identified based on the AWS suitability map to ensure that weather monitoring infrastructure is strategically positioned to generate useful data for agricultural planning and climate-risk management.

Through the installation of Automated Weather Stations (AWS) and the adoption of SARAI CL-SEAMS, the project will provide farmers, agricultural planners, and local decision-makers with science-based weather and climate information to support crop planning, farm management, and climate adaptation. With DOST serving as a science and technology enabler, the partnership aims to translate weather data into practical decisions that can improve productivity, reduce climate-related risks and losses, promote sustainable farming practices, and strengthen the long-term resilience and competitiveness of Bukidnon’s agricultural sector.

The 251 members of the Balugto “HOPE” Agroforestry Association, Inc. (BHAAI) in Barangay San Miguel, Talakag, Bukidnon are set to strengthen their livelihoods through improved vegetable production, postharvest handling, value-adding, and market access under a DOST-PCAARRD-funded initiative. The project gained momentum with the site inspection on August 4, 2026, where the proposed locations for a greenhouse, processing facility, and demonstration farm were assessed to ensure that the planned facilities respond to the community’s production and technology needs. This was followed by the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing between DOST Northern Mindanao and BHAAI on August 11, 2026, formalizing the partnership and shared commitment to advance sustainable and technology-enabled agriculture among Talaandig farmers.

During the project orientation, BHAAI members also signed Farmer Commitment Forms, affirming their active participation in project activities. Through DOST’s role as a technology enabler and facilitator, the initiative will provide the community with access to appropriate science, technology, and innovation (STI) interventions that can improve productivity, reduce postharvest losses, enhance product quality, create value-added products, and strengthen market opportunities. By connecting production with processing and market access, the project aims to build a more productive, competitive, resilient, and sustainable agricultural enterprise that creates greater livelihood opportunities for Talaandig farmers and strengthens the local food system.
