𝑳𝑶𝑶𝑲 | 𝑻𝑹𝑨𝑰𝑵𝑰𝑵𝑮 𝑶𝑵 𝑷𝑹𝑶𝑷𝑬𝑹 𝑪𝑨𝑪𝑨𝑶 𝑭𝑬𝑹𝑴𝑬𝑵𝑻𝑨𝑻𝑰𝑶𝑵 𝑻𝑬𝑪𝑯𝑵𝑰𝑸𝑼𝑬𝑺 𝑨𝑵𝑫 𝑷𝑶𝑺𝑻-𝑯𝑨𝑹𝑽𝑬𝑺𝑻 𝑯𝑨𝑵𝑫𝑳𝑰𝑵𝑮

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Aklan, through Negosyo Center Malinao, conducted a one-day Training on Proper Cacao Fermentation Techniques and Post-Harvest Handling on 20 August 2026 at Kinalangay Viejo, Malinao, Aklan.

The training was participated in by cacao farmers who are members of BUSOE, Inc.. The activity aimed to enhance the participants’ knowledge and skills in proper cacao fermentation and post-harvest handling to improve bean quality, reduce post-harvest losses, and produce fermented cacao beans suitable for premium markets.

The training featured lecture-discussion, demonstrations, hands-on fermentation exercises, and an open forum, providing participants with practical knowledge and skills that can be applied to their cacao farming activities.

The activity also emphasized the importance of proper fermentation practices in producing quality cacao beans, increasing farmers’ income opportunities, and strengthening the competitiveness of the local cacao industry. Participants were likewise encouraged to share their acquired knowledge and practices with fellow cacao farmers in their respective communities.

DTI Aklan expresses its sincere appreciation to our resource speaker and trainer, Ms. Nida A. Abello, for sharing her valuable knowledge, expertise, and practical experience on proper cacao fermentation and post-harvest handling.

The agency likewise extends its gratitude to our training partner, the Kinalangay Viejo Barangay Council, led by Hon. Nonito T. Rogano, for the support and assistance extended toward the successful conduct of the activity.

Special appreciation is also extended to BUSOE, Inc. and its cacao farmer-members for their active participation, cooperation, and commitment to continuously improve the quality of their cacao products.

Through collaborative efforts with our local partners and farmer organizations, DTI Aklan continues to strengthen the capabilities of local cacao farmers and support the development of a more competitive and sustainable cacao industry in the province.

The Department of Trade and Industry-Aklan Provincial Office, headed by newly designated OIC-Provincial Director Grace M. Benedicto, paid a courtesy visit to the Municipal Mayor of LGU Malinao, Hon. Engr. Josephine I. Iquiña, on 5 August 2026.

OIC-PD Benedicto presented the accomplishments of the Negosyo Center Malinao from January to June 2026. This aimed to inform the LGU of the programs and activities conducted by the agency in its continuous goal of assisting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and empowering consumers.

Additionally, potential projects under the Shared Service Facility (SSF) program were discussed by Mr. Amiel P. Sumait, STIDS, as part of the agency's future plans to assist MSMEs in the municipality.

The visit also aimed to strengthen the partnership between our agency and the Local Government Unit of Malinao to better serve local entrepreneurs and contribute to the economic progress of the municipality.

LOOK | DTI AKLAN CONDUCTS PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT FOR CRAFTS TO OSMAN ARC

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Aklan, thru the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) conducted a Product Development for Crafts for the members of Osman Agrarian Reform Cooperative (ARC) at Osman, Malinao, Aklan on July 22, 2026.

The training enhanced the participants’ creativity and craftsmanship through the development of market-ready handcrafted products. Guided by expert techniques and design insights, the participants produced a variety of beautiful craft items, including necklaces, headbands, bags, purses, and earrings, showcasing their skills and the potential of locally made products.

A heartfelt thank you to our resource person and designer, Ms. Sheree Reynaldo, for generously sharing her expertise, creativity, and passion in helping our local artisans improve their product designs and expand their market opportunities.

Through initiatives like this, DTI Aklan remains committed to empowering agrarian reform communities by strengthening their product innovation, enhancing product quality, and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities.
