The Provincial Agriculturistโ€™s Office (PAGRO), under the leadership of Nally S. Bangoy, RAgr, PhD, successfully facilitated the geotagging and validation of Dragon Fruit and Vegetable Production and Expansion Areas as a prerequisite for the establishment of a Greenhouse for Seedling Production Project funded by the High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office XI (DA-RFO XI).
The technical team, led by Ms. Jovy Languita, together with Mr. Quinn P. Obguia, Crop Protection Project Focal Person, and Engr. Rommel Morido, Engineering Assistant , conducted the geotagging and validation of a total of ten (10) hectares of vegetable and dragon fruit production and expansion areas. These validated sites will serve as essential references for mapping and documentation requirements in the preparation of the USUFRUCT Agreement and other enabling documents necessary for project implementation.

The identified recipient and qualified farmersโ€™ organization is the Demoloc United Farmers Association (DUFA), composed of 120 farmer-beneficiaries primarily engaged in upland vegetable production as a high-value cash crop. The project is expected to further strengthen agricultural productivity and create greater income-generating opportunities for its members.

This initiative reflects PAGROโ€™s continuing commitment to supporting farmer organizations and promoting sustainable agricultural development through strategic partnerships and investment in high-value crop production.

During this period, the use of ๐‘๐ข๐ง๐  ๐๐ž๐ญ๐ฌ (Kubkuban/Likom), ๐๐š๐  ๐๐ž๐ญ๐ฌ (Basnig/Tapay-Tapay), and other modified gears with similar fishing operations is strictly prohibited throughout the Davao Gulf. The conservation measure aims to protect the spawning and breeding grounds of key fish species such as ๐†๐š๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ง๐ ๐ ๐จ๐ง๐  (Round Scad), ๐Œ๐š๐ญ๐š๐ฆ๐›๐š๐ค๐š (Big-eyed Scad), and ๐Š๐š๐ซ๐š๐›๐š๐ฅ๐ฒ๐š๐ฌ/๐€๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐š๐ก๐š๐ง (Mackerel), ensuring sustainable fish stocks and long-term food security for future generations.

Violators may face penalties under Section 100 of Republic Act No. 10654, including fines ranging from โ‚ฑ20,000 to โ‚ฑ500,000, possible imprisonment, confiscation of catch and fishing gear, and suspension or revocation of fishing licenses and permits.

Bangoy, RAgr, PhD, through the High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP), successfully conducted a site survey on May 13, 2026, at North Lamidan, Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental, in preparation for the Detailed Engineering Design (DED) and Program of Works (POW) for the proposed Project Nursery.

The site survey was conducted by the Regional Agricultural Engineering Division (RAED) to assess the proposed areaโ€™s accessibility, topographic condition, and overall suitability for the establishment of a sustainable nursery facility.

The Provincial Agriculturist Office (PAGRO) participated in the Training on Integrated Planning Course on Incident Command System (IPICS) conducted by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) on May 11โ€“15, 2026 at Eden Park, Davao City, through the participation of Mr. Eduardo Antipolo, Farm Worker I.

The training provided valuable learning experiences and enhanced the participantโ€™s competencies in disaster preparedness, emergency response planning, leadership, coordination, and crisis communication essential in managing complex emergency situations and ensuring effective response operations.

Through this initiative, PAGRO continues to strengthen its institutional capability in disaster risk reduction and management, promoting the protection of agricultural resources and the continuous delivery of responsive services to the farming communities of Davao Occidental.

The Provincial Agriculturist Office (PAGRO), headed by Maโ€™am Nally S. Bangoy, RAgr, PhD, successfully continued the field maintenance activities on May 6-7, 2026, at the 1-hectare coffee demonstration area located in Sitio Lenna, Brgy. Little Baguio, Malita, Davao Occidental.

The activities included round w**ding, herbicide application, and fertilization to support the healthy growth and development of 100 hills of coffee trees. These efforts are part of the provinceโ€™s Coffee Production and Nursery Establishment Promoting Sustainable Livelihood and Community Peace Program, which aims to strengthen local coffee production, establish sustainable sources of quality planting materials, improve farmersโ€™ income opportunities, and promote inclusive agricultural development and community stability.

Through continuous farm maintenance, PAGRO helps improve field sanitation, minimize w**d competition, and enhance soil nutrient availability - contributing to increased coffee productivity and the long-term sustainability of the local coffee industry.

PAGRO remains committed to providing continuous maintenance activities and technical assistance to coffee farmer beneficiaries to further strengthen coffee production and support the livelihoods of local farmers.
