On June 2, 2026, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) XI Davao Occidental Field Office joined the Division Brigada Eskwela Kick-Off held at Mariano Peralta National High School - Bito Extension, reaffirming its commitment to supporting quality education through community collaboration and volunteerism.
โ€‹
In his message of support, DOLE XI Davao Occidental Provincial Director Paul V. Cruz underscored the importance of Brigada Eskwela as a collective effort in ensuring that schools are prepared, safe, and conducive to learning. He highlighted that through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) Program, DOLE has been providing temporary employment opportunities to community members who contribute to school clean-up, repair, and maintenance activities in preparation for the opening of classes.
โ€‹
Director Cruz also shared that DOLE is exploring ways to further strengthen its support to Brigada Eskwela in the coming years. Among the initiatives being considered is the engagement of TUPAD beneficiaries and Government Internship Program (GIP) interns in learning support activities, such as tutoring and academic assistance, to help address learning gaps and enhance learnersโ€™ preparedness. He emphasized that these efforts reflect DOLEโ€™s continuing commitment not only to generating employment opportunities but also to supporting quality education and community development.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) XI Davao Occidental Field Office, together with partner agencies, conducted an orientation on the series of assistance on June 2, 2026 at Brgy. San Agustin, Sta. Maria, Davao Occidental. The activity aims to ensure that fish workers and fisherfolks affected by the annual closed fishing season are informed and prepared to access available government interventions.
โ€‹
The activity forms part of the implementation of the recently established Memorandum of Agreement among DOLE XI, the Provincial Government of Davao Occidental, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) XI, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) XI, and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) XI. The convergence initiative aims to provide comprehensive support to fish workers and fisherfolks whose livelihoods are temporarily affected during the closed fishing season from June 1 to August 31.
โ€‹
Representatives from the partner agencies presented the various programs and interventions. These include skills training, emergency employment opportunities through Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD), Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS), livelihood assistance and other interventions designed to help fish workers and fisherfolks sustain their familiesโ€™ need.

DOLE XI Davao Occidental Provincial Director Paul V. Cruz emphasized that understanding the various programs, eligibility requirements, and application processes enables fish workers and fisherfolks to maximize the support provided by government agencies and better cope with the temporary disruption of their livelihoods.

Meanwhile, Hon. Barangay Captain Mikhail Kristoffer Mariscal Sr. of Brgy. San Agustin expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the initiative, noting that the convergence of assistance from various government agencies provides much-needed support helping the fish workers and fisherfolks withstand the temporary loss of income and sustain their families during the fishing ban period.

Through this collaborative effort, partner agencies reaffirm their commitment to supporting the welfare of affected beneficiaries and promoting sustainable livelihood opportunities while contributing to the conservation and management of marine resources.

June 1, 2026 - In support of the nationwide 2026 Brigada Eskwela, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) XI Davao Occidental Field Office, through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) Program, provided temporary employment opportunities to community members who actively participated in school clean-up, repair, and maintenance activities in preparation for the opening of classes.

Mr. Jason M. Delos Reyes, School Principal of Pedro Mariscal National High School in Sta. Maria, Davao Occidental, shared, "On behalf of Pedro Mariscal National High School, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to DOLE for being one of our valued partners in Brigada Eskwela 2026. Your support through the TUPAD program has greatly contributed to the success of our school preparations for the opening of classes. Through your assistance, we are able to provide a safer and more conducive learning environment for our students."

Meanwhile, Dr. Estrellita A. Ramos, School Principal of Heracleo Casco Memorial National High School in Sta. Maria, Davao Occidental noted that the assistance significantly eased the school's preparations for the opening of classes, as TUPAD beneficiaries helped clean and maintain classrooms and school facilities. Their contributions enabled teachers and school personnel to devote more time and attention to instructional preparation and other learning-related activities. Dr. Ramos likewise expressed her gratitude to DOLE for its continued support to the education sector.

In line with its continuing commitment to provide immediate relief and emergency employment assistance to vulnerable workers affected by natural disturbances, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) XI Davao Occidental Field Office released more than Php 3.5 million under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) Program to 600 beneficiaries in the municipality of Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental on May 18-21, 2026.

The emergency employment assistance benefited vulnerable and displaced workers who were adversely affected by the combined effects of the shear line and northeast monsoon, which caused heavy rains and disrupted livelihoods in several communities in the municipality.

DOLE XI Davao Occidental Provincial Director Paul V. Cruz emphasized the importance of responsive government interventions, especially during times when vulnerable sectors are heavily affected by calamities and environmental disturbances.

The DOLE XI Davao Occidental Field Office continues to strengthen its commitment to delivering responsive and people-centered programs that provide social protection, emergency employment, and livelihood opportunities to disadvantaged workers and communities across the province.
