On August 24, 2026, at about 9:00 PM, in Obando, Bulacan, operatives of the Bulacan Provincial Cyber Response Team (PCRT) of the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) conducted an entrapment operation that resulted in the arrest of a 26-year-old man, alias โJunel,โ for the illegal online sale of registered Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards.
The entrapment operation stemmed from the proactive cyber patrolling of Bulacan PCRT operatives and its Warriors against Cybercrime Auxiliary (WCA) Force targeting the illegal online selling of fully verified e-wallet accounts and registered SIM cards on social media, wherein the suspect posted on Facebook offering to sell registered SIM cards for 10 pesos each.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect engaged in the bulk sale of registered SIM cards. He admitted to personally registering some of the SIM cards using the identities of other individuals, claiming that registered SIM cards were easier to sell than unregistered ones. He also disclosed that some of the SIM cards were already registered when he purchased them from an undisclosed seller. A total of 400 SIM cards were seized during the operation and will be subjected to Warrant to Disclose Computer Data (WDCD) and further investigation.
The suspect is facing charges for violation of Section 7 (Subsequent Sale of Registered SIM Card) of RA No. 11934 (SIM Registration Act of 2022), in relation to Section 6 of RA No. 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012). He is currently under the custody of the PNP ACG after undergoing inquest proceedings and is awaiting the resolution of the case.
