DTI Strengthens Entrepreneurial Skills of Coconut Farmers Through CocoCraft Training

MANAPLA, Negros Occidental – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) reinforced the entrepreneurial capabilities of coconut farmers by facilitating business development sessions during the CocoCraft: Skills Training on Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) Production and Coconut-Based Soap Making – Batch 6, held on July 28–29, 2026, at the Dos Hermanos Training Center, Brgy. Purisima, Manapla, Negros Occidental.

The two-day training was organized by the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) Regional Training Center VI in partnership with the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) under the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP).

DTI Senior Trade Industry Development Specialist Mr. John McHale Benid conducted the sessions on Fundamentals of Product Packaging and Introduction to Marketing, Branding, Positioning, and Promotion Strategies, highlighting the importance of product presentation, market positioning, and effective promotional strategies in increasing the competitiveness of coconut-based products.

Meanwhile, DTI Negosyo Center Manapla Junior Business Counselor Mr. David John Rubido facilitated the session on Basics of Costing and Computation Techniques, providing participants with practical knowledge on determining production costs, setting appropriate prices, and improving business profitability.

The training was attended by 35 coconut farmers from various coconut farmers associations in Negros Occidental. Through the activity, participants gained both technical and entrepreneurial knowledge to support the development of quality, value-added coconut products and expand market opportunities.

The initiative reflects the continued commitment of ATI, PCA, and DTI to empower coconut farmers by strengthening their skills, promoting entrepreneurship, and supporting the sustainable growth of the coconut industry under the CFIDP.
