The COMELEC VSOโs three-day voter education and outreach activities formally began in Digos City with a session for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) at the BJMP Digos City District Jail. The activity focused on PDLsโ voting rights, voter registration procedures, and COMELEC initiatives such as Special Polling Places and escorted voting, aimed at ensuring an accessible and inclusive electoral process.
The activity continued in Talaingod, Davao del Norte, where the team engaged Indigenous Peoples members of the Ata Manobo through a community-based voter education activity, and was warmly welcomed with traditional dances and music. During the session, Chairman George Erwin M. Garcia underscored the principle of equality in suffrage, saying, โWhatever the status of a Filipino in our country, whether you live in the lowlands or belong to an indigenous community, we all share the same right when it comes to voting.โ He further stressed the importance of electoral participation, adding, โWe must participate in elections and show that the voice of democracy resides in every individual.โ Participants were briefed on voter registration and the electoral processes in Accessible Voting Centers (AVCs) and Separate Polling Places (SPPs).
The final leg of the activities was held in the 2nd District of Davao City, focusing on Senior Citizens and Persons with Disabilities. The session emphasized voter registration requirements and voting procedures in Accessible Polling Places (APPs), Priority Polling Places (PPPs), and Satellite-Priority Polling Places (S-PPPs), designed to ensure a more inclusive voting experience.
Overall, the three-day voter education and outreach activities demonstrated strong collaboration among COMELEC VSO, field offices, and partner agencies, reaffirming COMELECโs commitment to empowering vulnerable sectors and promoting accessible, inclusive, and participatory elections.
