LOOK: The Office of the Deputy Chief of Coast Guard Staff for Maritime Safety Services, CG-8, actively participated in the 2nd Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on 18 June 2026 as part of the government's continuing efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness and emergency response capabilities.

The activity provided personnel with the opportunity to practice proper earthquake response procedures, including the "Duck, Cover, and Hold" technique, evacuation protocols, and coordination measures during emergency situations. Through this exercise, CG-8 enhanced the readiness and resilience of its personnel in responding to potential earthquake-related incidents.

The participation of CG-8 in the nationwide drill underscores its commitment to promoting a culture of safety, preparedness, and vigilance while ensuring that its personnel remain capable of responding effectively to emergencies and disasters.

The conduct of the 2nd Quarter NSED reaffirms the Philippine Coast Guard's dedication to safeguarding lives, strengthening organizational preparedness, and supporting the government's disaster risk reduction and management initiatives.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊: On 04 December 2025, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), through the Office of the Deputy Chief of Coast Guard Staff for Maritime Safety Service, CG-8 (O/CG-8), conducted a one-day lecture on “𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝑯𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒈𝒆: 𝑹𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒕𝒐𝒄𝒐𝒍𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒊𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑯𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝑳𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆𝒔” at the PCG Auditorium, Bachrach 1, 23rd Street, Port Area, 1018 Manila.

This initiative aims to equip PCG personnel—entrusted with the stewardship of the country’s historical lighthouses—with the essential knowledge and protocols to ensure their preservation and restoration in full compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.

In line with this objective, O/CG-8 coordinated with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), the primary custodian of the nation’s historical landmarks, to deliver the lecture. This collaboration ensures that lighthouse restoration efforts are guided not only by technical expertise but also by historical fidelity and cultural significance.

𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡. 𝐌𝐚. 𝐋𝐮𝐢𝐬𝐚 𝐌. 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨, Supervising Restoration Architect of the NHCP’s Historic Preservation Division, shared her expertise and provided fundamental guidance to strengthen the PCG’s initiatives in safeguarding maritime heritage. Her insights underscored the importance of proper restoration practices and compliance in maintaining the integrity of the country’s historic lighthouses.
