Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo welcomed the delegation from the Justice Reform Initiative (JRI), led by its Chairperson, Atty. Alexander B. Cabrera, during a courtesy call on September 2, 2026, at the (SC) in Ermita, Manila.

Established in 2012, the JRI is a coalition of private-sector and civil-society organizations that advocates reforms in the administration of justice, particularly those that strengthen the rule of law, judicial independence, accountability, efficiency, and access to justice. It also conducts surveys and research on public and business sector perceptions of the justice system.

Chief Justice Gesmundo welcomed the JRIโ€™s continuing partnership with the Judiciary, noting that its advocacy for the rule of law, accountability, and integrity in the justice system aligns with the Courtโ€™s reform efforts. He cited the JRIโ€™s focus on long-standing challengesโ€”including delays in case resolution, limited access to justice, and public concerns about corruption and competence in the courtsโ€”as consistent with the direction the SC has taken under the ๐˜š๐˜ต๐˜ณ๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜จ๐˜ช๐˜ค ๐˜—๐˜ญ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ ๐˜ง๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ ๐˜‘๐˜ถ๐˜ฅ๐˜ช๐˜ค๐˜ช๐˜ข๐˜ญ ๐˜๐˜ฏ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฐ๐˜ท๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ๐˜ด 2022โ€“2027, particularly its focus on efficiency, innovation, and access to justice.

Also joining the courtesy call were JRI Vice Chairperson Atty. Benedicta Du-Baladad; President Atty. Pedro H. Maniego Jr.; Vice President Maria Mignon W. Ramos; Treasurer Esther P. Magleo; Trustees Atty. Roderico V. Puno, and Julia Abad; and Board Advisers Sherisa Nuesa, Teresita Ang-See, Rex C. Drilon II, and Jerome Pascual.
