FEU IAS SANDIGAN STUDENT COUNCIL History of the Genuine Student Movement in IAS 1987 FEU SANDIGAN Party Alliance (SANDIGAN NG PAMANTASAN NG MALAYONG SILANGANAN) was planned to be formed in Alitagtag, Batangas on January 3-7, 1987. 1987 SANDIGAN formed their first chapter in the FEU Institute of Technology (now the FEU East Asia College) at FEU-FERN, Don Antonio Heights, Quezon City, where SANDIGAN saddled first but it gained more influence at their chapter at FEU Manila, where SANDIGAN transferred their political position along with the University Belt colleges and schools. 2 of the 8 founders of SANDIGAN came from IAS, namely Ulysees Prescillas, BS Biology, the founding chairman of Sandigan Mass Organization, and Nestor Susa. 1987-1988 SANDIGAN protested against the Administration for not allowing the students to re-establish their student organizations, including the student council of IAS and other institutes. As granted, SANDIGAN participated under the name of “PIGLAS party”, which was eventually been replaced later on with its current name. 1987-1988 SANDIGAN met its first loss as the Administration-sponsored student political parties, the SUMAMA KA party and KINATAWAN Party took all the posts in the SCs and in FEUCSO. 1988-1989 SANDIGAN, for the first time, won in a complete landslide victory in all seats in the Institute SCs and FEUCSO, facing no opponent party from the Administration. This period was called “the revival of the Magnificent Seven”, the re-establishment of the student-centered organizations, and the revival of the Institute SCs and FEUCSO. Ronilo Perea, IAS SANDIGAN member, won as first FEUCSO SANDIGAN president. 1989-1990 SANDIGAN won another major victory in IAS-SC. IAS SANDIGAN was one of the sponsors of the memorandum sent by SANDIGAN-P.A. to the Administration, calling the FEU Plaza “FREEDOM PARK”, as SANDIGAN’s official landmark, declaring their self-determination, away from the Admin’s grasps. 1990-1999 IAS SANDIGAN also participated in the “BARIKADA”, a university-wide student movement that harshly opposed the Admin’s unjust 20% tuition fee increase during that time. Majority of the participants in the Movement were from IAS. As a result, the increase was cut down to 10% but it resulted to Lheland Lopez, the FEUCSO SANDIGAN president who led the movement, to his eventual expulsion. 1991-1999 IAS SANDIGAN became an active supporter of the endeavors of SANDIGAN. IAS SANDIGAN made the most number of officers and student-leaders for FEUCSO, the continuous pioneering of more student-oriented projects by the ISCs, the strong opposition in unjust tuition fee increases, the formation of more student-oriented organizations in IAS, such as academic organizations and recreational groups, the prevention of fraternity wars and maintenance of peace and order in the campus in 1992, the advocacy for the Magna Carta for Student’s Rights in 1995, the opposition against Expanded Value Added Tax in 1994, the re-establishment of the FEU Advocate in 1996, the introduction of scholarship programs for students who can’t afford to pay their fees in 1998, the dissolution of the well-established but abusive ROTC in 1999, 1992-1993 Engelbert Caronan Jr., an AB Political Science student, was the SIXTH IAS Student Council President. His running mates were John Bayarong who won as Political Science Society President, and Alexis Claros, who won as FEU Central Student Organization President in 1992. All of the forementioned student-leaders are from IAS SANDIGAN. 2000-2001 Welcoming the 21st century, IAS SANDIGAN showed their support for the ouster of President Erap Estrada. IAS SANDIGAN led the victory as Alvin Lorenzo was elected the IAS SC President. 2001-2002 IAS SANDIGAN gained their second streak as Celmer Santos won the IAS SC Presidency. There, he initiated a community-service inspired movement, which became his basis for his projects that eventually came to fruit as the “FEU Tamaraw Volunteers”, the first and only volunteer organization recognized by the University, being him as the Founding President. He also started the creative convention called “Mahika ng Kamay”, a showcase of artworks and a symbol of support to artistic freedom made by the IAS students themselves. 2004-2005 IAS SANDIGAN won back the student council presidency, after two years, under Norman Zafra, the incumbent business manager of the IAS-SC during that time. He pioneered the formation of the IAS Dance Company and the creation of IAS Honor Society. The Zafra Administration was dubbed as the “most active, most transparent student council in FEU”. 2005-2006 IAS SANDIGAN won a landslide victory of 9-0 sweep as Victor Vitug led his SC to a student-centered leadership for his organization. He then became a FEUCSO officer the following year. 2006-2007 IAS SANDIGAN won the hearts of the students under the administration of Joshua Maria Vicario III in IAS-SC. Majority of the seats were taken by SANDIGAN during his term, which made student projects and programs more intensified. 2007-present IAS SANDIGAN SC's members focused now on the grassroot levels of their academic courses, the academic organizations. Still, IAS SANDIGAN still proved to be the best choice in student service despite of their defeat in SC elections that proved and tested their professionalism and political affairs. Majority of the seats in academic organizations in IAS were administered by IAS SANDIGAN members. Also, most number of leadership achievers and recognized servant leaders cam from IAS SANDIGAN. Many of them must be mentioned as high regard, but the list always goes on. 2013-2014 IAS SANDIGAN, through the Young Empowered Students Party in IAS, returned the Political Science Society to the students after Bianca Infantado won the PSS Presidency. Kenneth Mateo also won the presidency in Mathematics Society he won the election with no opponent. Hurjae Lubag was elected as the FIRST Medtech student to become a FEUCSO officer, winning the post as an Auditor. SANDIGAN Party Alliance, along with her allied organizations, called to JUNK the Priority Development and Assistance Fund (PDAF) or so-called "Pork Barrel" after a scam that involved numerous political personalities was publicized and sensationalized by the media, calling clamor to prioritize education and youth welfare.
