BPI Plant Product Safety Services Division Celebrating 90 Years of Excellence

From a single government laboratory in 1901 to the establishment of the Plant Utilization Division on August 1, 1936, the Bureau of Plant Industry-Plant Product Safety Services Division (BPI-PPSSD) marks another year of service as the Bureau’s lead Division on plant food safety.

Today, PPSSD continues to enhance its food safety regulation, laboratory services, and surveillance, working alongside local and international partners to safeguard Filipino food and carrying on a 90-year legacy of service to Philippine agriculture and consumers.

Tahimik na lumutang ang Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) bilang isa sa pinakamalaking matagumpay na kuwento ng modernisasyon ng Department of Agriculture, gamit ang agham at digital na teknolohiya, at mas malakas na sistema sa ligtas na pagkain upang protektahan ang mga consumer, magbukas ng mga bagong merkado sa export, at mapalakas ang seguridad sa pagkain ng bansa.

Kabilang sa pinakamalaking tagumpay ay ang pagtatatag ng P55- million Nitrates and Nitrates Analysis Laboratory, na nagbibigay sa gobyerno ng kakayahang matukoy ang mga latak ng kemikal sa mga plant-based na pagkain at masigurong nakakatugon sa lokal at international na pamantayan para sa ligtas na pagkain.

DA hails BPI modernization 'gains' in food safety, exports

The Department of Agriculture (DA) on Saturday hailed the modernization of its Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) as a major success in strengthening food safety and security and expanding export markets through science and digital technology.

Sa pagbisita ng grupo ni NMIS Regional Technical Director Ronnie Duque at BAI OIC Assistant Director, tatlong (3) rice retailers ang nabigyan ng Notice of Violation (NOV) dahil sa pagbebenta ng imported na bigas (5% broken) na mas mataas sa itinalagang P50/kilo na price cap.

Isa sa mga ito ang natuklasang gumagamit ng sako ng local rice, kahit ang laman nito ay imported rice. Pinaalalahanan din ang mga retailers na gamitin ang wastong labeling, gaya ng paggamit ng asul (blue) na shelf talker para sa mga imported na bigas, at puti (white) naman para sa local.

Kasama sa monitoring ang mga kinatawan ng Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI), Philippine National police (PNP), LGU Malabon City, at Food Terminal, Inc. (FTI). Binisita rin ang iba pang bilihin gaya ng karne, gulay, at isda upang siguruhing nasa tamang presyo at sapat na suplay ang mga ito.
