ON THE INCIDENT INVOLVING BULATLAT REPORTER AARON ERNEST CRUZ

The Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFOMS) is aware of the reported incident involving Bulatlat reporter Aaron Ernest Cruz during a protest at the Department of Agrarian Reform on October 19, 2026.

The PTFOMS maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward violence, harassment, or intimidation against media practitioners performing their professional duties. Journalism is a cornerstone of our democracy, and the safety of those who gather and disseminate information is of paramount importance.

Upon learning of the incident, the PTFOMS responded immediately and coordinated with the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM). NAPOLCOM promptly deployed investigators to the ground to establish the facts and conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the actions of the Quezon City Police District personnel involved.

The PTFOMS is closely monitoring the investigation. We also acknowledge receipt of the formal notice forwarded by the AlterMidya. We look forward to the AlterMidya’s cooperation, including any relevant information that may assist the investigation and, if warranted, the filing of appropriate cases against those found responsible for the alleged harassment.

The PTFOMS remains committed to protecting press freedom and ensuring that violations of media workers’ rights are addressed in accordance with the law.

We urge all parties to cooperate with the investigation. The PTFOMS will continue to take the necessary steps to promote accountability and safeguard the safety and security of journalists in the Philippines. #

The Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFOMS) joined a case conference with Police Regional Office 5 (PRO5) and Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) “Golden Boy” at Camp Ola in Legazpi City, led by PRO5 Regional Director PBGen. Randy Glenn G. Silvio.

The conference focused on the investigation into the killing of broadcaster Adrian Nacion “Golden Boy” Loterte, who was shot at his bakery in Barangay San Roque, Daraga, Albay, on October 12, 2026. Police formed a special investigation task group to identify the perpetrators and establish the motive.

In an October 13 briefing, Silvio said investigators were reviewing CCTV footage to trace the suspects’ movements before and after the shooting, with their trail last tracked to Camalig, Albay. Police are examining possible work-related, personal and business motives; none has been established.

PTFOMS continues to coordinate with law enforcement agencies to support a swift, thorough and impartial investigation and help ensure accountability for the killing.

The National Momentum Survey found that 76.5 percent of Filipino adults trusted news and information from journalists working for news organizations, compared with 31.3 percent from content creators and vloggers.

PTFOMS Investigating Reported Attack on RBN News Reporter in Daraga

The Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFOMS) is investigating the reported attack on Adrian “Golden Boy” Loterte, a reporter for RBN News Television, in Barangay San Roque, Daraga, Albay, on October 12, 2026.

Initial reports place the incident at about 4:24 p.m. Loterte was taken to Daraga Doctors’ Hospital for treatment. Authorities have not identified the suspect and have launched a hot pursuit operation.

PTFOMS is urging law enforcement agencies to conduct a swift, thorough, and impartial investigation to establish the circumstances and motive behind the attack and hold those responsible accountable.

The Task Force also urges anyone with credible information to report it to the authorities. Violence against members of the media is unacceptable. #

Putting safety lessons into practice.

Journalists from Naga City and the provinces of Camarines Sur and Camarines Norte participated in simulation exercises during the second day of the Media Safety and Security Training Workshop at Camp Miranda in Naga City on October 9, 2026.

Conducted by the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFOMS) and the Philippine National Police (PNP), the workshop aims to strengthen journalists’ practical skills in assessing risks, responding to threats, and staying safe while keeping their communities informed.

Every journalist deserves to report freely—and return home safely.
