PHILIPPINE ASSOCIATION OF TEACHERS OF LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE

PATLS is an association founded in 1964 which fundamental purpose is to develop and promote library on July 10, 2003, although retaining the same acronym PATLS.

The Philippine Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science was founded on February 28, 1964. The name Philippine Association of Teachers of Library Science was changed to Philippine Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science, Inc. The PATLS has been in the forefront of library development and library education in the country. It has done its share in improving the se

rvices rendered by the different types of libraries not only because its members are all seasoned LIS teachers, but more so because more of the are acknowledged leaders in the field of librarianship in the Philippines. There is no doubt, therefore, that PATLS will remain a wellspring of wisdom and enlightenment in the library profession in our country.

A webinar on “Artificial Intelligence Applications in Philippine Libraries and LIS Education" will be hosted on the first part of the General Assembly by Asst. Prof. Janny Surmieda

In Memoriam

The Philippine Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (PATLS) joins the LIS community in mourning the passing of Dr. Juan C. Buenrostro, Jr., former PATLS President.

Dr. Buenrostro served as PATLS President from 1990–1991 and again from 2011–2013, leaving behind a legacy of leadership, service, and commitment to the advancement of library and information science education in the Philippines.

We honor his contributions to the profession, his dedication to LIS education, and the many lives he touched as teacher, mentor, colleague, and leader.

Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, colleagues, former students, and the entire LIS community.

May his memory continue to inspire generations of Filipino librarians and LIS educators.

Wake and viewing is on May 17-19, 2026 from 9am to 11pm at the Premier Chapel, 2nd Floor of Marian Memorial Chapels & Crematory, Marcos Highway, Antipolo City.

A Memorial Service in his honour -- jointly organized by UPSLIS, UPLSAA, and PATLS -- will be on May 19, Tuesday, 10:00-11:30am at the chapel. Colleagues and friends are enjoined to attend the service

The LIS Enrichment Program will be offered with online synchronous sessions and access to course materials such as lecture notes and assessments via a learning management system. This will also include two Program Audits and several Program Forum.

Take note that only a maximum of 190 participants will be accommodated.

Early Bird: Php4000 for full payments on or before May 1
Regular: Php5000 for payments after May 1

To be an officer of PATLS, a person must be:
· a member of the Association;
· currently teaching LIS subjects in BLIS or MLIS degree; and
· committed to serving the Association for two (2) years by way of active involvement in the planning and implementation of its activities and advocacies.
