PHILIPPINE ASSOCIATION OF TEACHERS OF LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE

PHILIPPINE ASSOCIATION OF TEACHERS OF LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE PATLS is an association founded in 1964 which fundamental purpose is to develop and promote library on July 10, 2003, although retaining the same acronym PATLS.

The Philippine Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science was founded on February 28, 1964. The name Philippine Association of Teachers of Library Science was changed to Philippine Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science, Inc. The PATLS has been in the forefront of library development and library education in the country. It has done its share in improving the se

rvices rendered by the different types of libraries not only because its members are all seasoned LIS teachers, but more so because more of the are acknowledged leaders in the field of librarianship in the Philippines. There is no doubt, therefore, that PATLS will remain a wellspring of wisdom and enlightenment in the library profession in our country.

Today, June 8, 2026, the Philippine Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (PATLS) reached a historic milestone during our General Assembly.

We celebrate a true icon today. It was a privilege to present the ๐—Ÿ๐—ถ๐—ณ๐—ฒ๐˜๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ฒ ๐—”๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜ ๐—”๐˜„๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฑ to ๐—ฃ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ณ. ๐—–๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—ฑ๐—ฎ ๐—–. ๐—”๐—ด๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—ผ๐—ถ๐—น๐—ถ, our Founding President, whose dedication has shaped the LIS profession for decades.

This award is a tribute to her exemplary contributions to Library and Information Science education. As a distinguished teacher and mentor, Prof. Agcaoiliโ€™s influence has guided generations of Filipino librarians and information professionals. In Memoriam

The Philippine Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (PATLS) joins the LIS community in mourning the passing of Dr. Juan C. Buenrostro, Jr., former PATLS President.

Dr. Buenrostro served as PATLS President from 1990โ€“1991 and again from 2011โ€“2013, leaving behind a legacy of leadership, service, and commitment to the advancement of library and information science education in the Philippines.

We honor his contributions to the profession, his dedication to LIS education, and the many lives he touched as teacher, mentor, colleague, and leader.

Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, colleagues, former students, and the entire LIS community.

May his memory continue to inspire generations of Filipino librarians and LIS educators.
