Starting in 2025, the United Nations has designated every September 5th of the year as the International Day of the Worldโ€™s Indigenous Women and Girls. With this, the Philippine Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (PH-EITI) honors all Indigenous women throughout its civil society organizations and communities.

In 2024, PH-EITI reporting companies with confirmed Indigenous communities impacted by mining operations reported a total of ๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿฏ ๐—œ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ผ๐˜‚๐˜€ ๐˜„๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป among their workforceใƒผ651 indigenous women from the metallic mining sector and 2 indigenous women from the oil and gas sector.

The PH-EITI remains committed to honoring the symbolic and practical actions that these women have contributed to advancing the rights and well-being of Indigenous Peoples in the extractive industry.

LOOK: Philippine Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (PH-EITI) National Coordinator Mary Ann Rodolfo joined the International Labour Organization (ILO) Philippines Inception Workshop on Promoting Responsible, Inclusive, and Sustainable Nickel Supply Chains in the Philippines at the Makati Diamond Residences, September 2, 2026.

National Coordinator Mary Ann Rodolfo highlighted how the PH-EITI information products contribute to the countryโ€™s nickel industry.

โ€œThis is where PH-EITI's information products [Contracts Portal and Beneficial Ownership Registry] can be useful. In simple terms, contracts help us understand the basis and terms of an operation, while beneficial ownership helps us understand who ultimately owns or controls the company. Together, these make the nickel sector more visible, not just in terms of what is being extracted, but also who is involved and under what terms,โ€ Rodolfo stated.

We know the company extracting our natural resources. But do we know whoโ€™s behind it?

Hereโ€™s the T: Beneficial ownership tells us who ultimately owns or controls an extractive company.

Heroes are not only found in the pages and backups of our history books. Some can be found deep in the mines, in our communities, and in the everyday work that keeps our nation moving forward.

On August 31, 2026, we honor the people behind the extractive sector: our miners, workers, Indigenous Peoples, parents, and community leaders, whose dedication, courage, and perseverance contribute to the sector's development and our country's progress.

Today, we recognize not only what they do, but the people behind the work.

To all our heroes, thank you for your hard work, dedication, and service to our nation. Today, we celebrate and recognize you.

Through the Online Reporting in the Extractives (ORE) tool, the Philippine Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (PH-EITI) gathers and tracks data reported by mining companies on taxes, fees, royalties, and other payments. These raw data become part of the PH-EITI Country Reports, where information is monitored, tracked, and reconciled to promote transparency and accountability in the extractive sector.
