The Coast Guard Officers’ Course Class 22-17 “GAT - MASALIGAN” is a gallant uniquely structured CGOC Class of the Philippine Coast Guard Academy (formerly known as the Coast Guard Officers’ School). Convened on November 30, 2017, at Bagac, Bataan, the class was composed of three companies from different forms of professions and backgrounds. Honed and united together to embody the finest values and traditions of the Philippine Coast Guard.

The class seal represents a rich symbolic context, reflecting the values, principles, and mission of the class and their commitment to service.

𝑱𝑼𝑹𝑰𝑺, 𝑭𝑰𝑫𝑬𝑺, 𝑯𝑶𝑵𝑶𝑹𝑰𝑺 - the center top banner of the class seal is latin word for “justice, loyalty and honor” reflecting the class virtues of respect and adherence to legal principles, loyalty to the motherland and integrity in pursuit of truth and justice.

𝑺𝑯𝑰𝑬𝑳𝑫 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑨𝑵𝑪𝑯𝑶𝑹 - The shining shield and anchor is the central element of the seal. It portrays a symbol of protection, strength, and preparedness. The anchor represents the long profound maritime foundation of the Coast Guard, signifying steadiness and a guiding role of sea duties in facing challenges and adversities in the service.

𝑺𝑼𝑵 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑺𝑻𝑨𝑹𝑺 - The presence of the sun and stars in the seal is from the national ensign, symbolizes a deep sense of patriotism and national pride. The three stars - Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao indicate a nationwide commitment of the class to perform our mandated functions at any point in the country.

𝑪𝑹𝑶𝑺𝑺𝑬𝑫 𝑺𝑾𝑶𝑹𝑫𝑺 - the sword symbolizes officers’ readiness and defense. It is a representation of the class standing with courage and honor against lawlessness and unrest.

𝑳𝑨𝑼𝑹𝑬𝑳 𝑾𝑹𝑬𝑨𝑻𝑯 - the embodiment of laurel is an epitome of victory and achievement. Each bract is a reminder of the rigorous experience, teamwork, and unwavering support the class endured. Thus, symbolizes collective testimony of pride and distinction.

𝑺𝑪𝑨𝑳𝑬𝑺 𝑶𝑭 𝑱𝑼𝑺𝑻𝑰𝑪𝑬 - the scale on the left and right side symbolizes equality and fairness among comrades. The class must act with impartiality with guided virtues towards our respective duties and responsibilities.

𝑹𝑬𝑳𝑰𝑮𝑰𝑶𝑼𝑺 𝑺𝒀𝑴𝑩𝑶𝑳 - the crescent moon and cross at the top of the seal reflect the importance of faith and religious diversity. These symbolize unity and moral integrity amongst muslims and christian anchoring their faith in one true Deity.

𝑹𝑶𝑫 𝑶𝑭 𝑨𝑺𝑪𝑳𝑬𝑷𝑰𝑼𝑺 - the center rod of asclepius in the class seal emphasizes protection and care amongst the members. Moreover, it highlights the humanitarian nature of the Coast Guard service - saving lives.

𝑮𝑨𝑻-𝑴𝑨𝑺𝑨𝑳𝑰𝑮𝑨𝑵 - the "GAT-MASALIGAN" banner at the bottom of the seal stands as a monicker, meaning “Gabay at Tanglaw - Matapat na Serbisyo para sa Ligtas na Karagatan”. The word “GAT” symbolizes an honorific title for noble Filipino heroes who sacrifice their lives for the freedom and liberation of our countrymen. This is commemorated every November 30 - the class convening anniversary. Likewise, “MASALIGAN” suggests a local colloquial term for “trustworthy”. Hence, combining these two words ties CGOC Class 22-17 as honorable and trustworthy individuals ready to lead and protect our country’s maritime interests.

COAST GUARD RESCUE OPERATION SUCCES
23 June 2025 | Maasim, Sarangani Province

At 4:50PM, Coast Guard personnel aboard BRP Panglao (FPB-2402) under the helm of LTSG ELTON JOHN L DUMAPLIN PCG successfully rescued two (2) fishermen and retrieved their half-submerged motor banca at approximately 20 Nautical Miles from the shoreline of Maasim, Sarangani Province — in response to a distress report.

Search and rescue operations team composed of SOG-SM personnel aboard RHIB (Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat) was launched from BRP Panglao and swiftly proceeded to the location of the distressed banca. Upon reaching the site, the team assessed the situation and successfully rescued both crew members, transferring them safely to the coast guard vessel.

Medical personnel from CGMED-SM and NSSU-SM administered prompt first aid to the rescued individuals, ensuring their health and safety after the ordeal.

Shortly after, towing operations commenced, with the BRP Panglao towing the submerged fishing banca toward the vicinity waters off Daliao, Maasim for a scheduled rendezvous. As of 7:30PM, towing efforts were still ongoing, with all operations proceeding safely and efficiently.

This successful operation highlights the Philippine Coast Guard's unwavering commitment to maritime safety, rapid response, and life-saving missions in our jurisdictional waters.

It recognizes those who embody the finest traditions of service, uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity, and contribute significantly to the mission success and operational excellence of the Coast Guard Aviation Command.

Further, this esteemed recognition highlights 𝗟𝗧𝗝𝗚 𝗠𝗔𝗖𝗔𝗕𝗜𝗧𝗔𝗦’ exceptional leadership, professionalism, and invaluable contributions as junior officer to the operational readiness and overall mission success of the Coast Guard Aviation Command.

CGOC Class 22-2017 stands out in the Coast Guard Station Commanders Course

The CGOC “Gat-Masaligan” Class of 22-2017 proudly congratulates its outstanding members for their remarkable completion of the Coast Guard Station Commander’s Course last 06 May 2025. The Coast Guard Education, Training, and Doctrine Command (CGETDC) officially concluded the Coast Guard Station Commander’s Course for Classes 15, 16, and 17 through a simultaneous graduation ceremony held at Function Hall, National Headquarters Philippine Coast Guard (CGSCC Class 15-2024), Coast Guard District Central Visayas aboard HCGDCV Hawanan ni Lapu-Lapu, Arellano Blvd., Pier 3, Brgy. Tinago, Cebu City, Cebu (CGSCC Class 16-2024), and Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao (CGSCC Class 17-2024) today, 06 May 2024.

The Station Commander’s Course is a comprehensive four-month training program specifically designed to enhance the leadership, administrative, and operational competencies of PCG officers who are either newly assigned or slated for assignment as Station Commanders.

The curriculum blends both academic and practical training modules. Academically, participants undergo lectures, workshops, and case studies focused on maritime governance, command leadership, operational planning, international maritime conventions, and inter-agency coordination. Non-academic components include field exercises, Physical Fitness Test, Peer Rating, Swimming Qualificatio Test, simulation drills, and scenario-based training to sharpen the officers' decision-making abilities and adaptability under pressure.

In honor of the 2025 Women’s Month, themed ''Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas,'' the Coast Guard District North Eastern Luzon proudly acknowledges the invaluable contributions of all its female personnel, celebrating their vital role in fulfilling the mission of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

In honor of National Women’s Month, we proudly recognize the remarkable contributions of our female Dental Officers in the Coast Guard Dental Service. These women embody dedication, skill, and unwavering commitment to ensuring our PCG personnel's oral health and well-being.

Among them is LCDR NIKITA ELAINE V MARILA DENTAL SERVICE PHILIPPINE COAST GUARD, a Dental Officer currently designated as the OIC, Plans and Program of CG Dental Dispensary. A shining example of leadership and excellence, she was awarded as the CGDS Junior Officer of the Year 2023—a testament to her outstanding service and dedication.

LTJG LIZEL A RUELO PCG is a remarkable example of a woman excelling in a traditionally male-dominated field. As a dedicated member of the Philippine Coast Guard, she has demonstrated unwavering commitment and resilience throughout her career.

Balancing Responsibilities: LTJG RUELO is not only a skilled professional but also a devoted mother. She has successfully balanced her responsibilities at work, family, and personal life, showcasing her ability to prioritize and multitask. This balance is a testament to her strength and dedication to both her family and career.

Showcasing Leadership: LTJG RUELO'S journey is characterized by strong ambition and a commitment to personal growth. Determined to move beyond her position as a Non-Officer, she diligently worked her way up to the rank of Officer, showcasing her dedication to career advancement and her readiness to embrace increased leadership responsibilities.

Service and Loyalty: For about 13 years, LTJG RUELO served her previous unit with loyalty and dedication. Initially, she believed that opportunities outside her current role were not necessary, but when presented with the chance to expand her horizons, she seized it without hesitation. This willingness to challenge herself reflects her adaptability and eagerness for growth.

Professional Development: LTJG RUELO has undergone extensive training to enhance her skills in maritime security and law enforcement. She completed the Maritime Security Law Enforcement Basic Course, which provided her with foundational knowledge in this area. Additionally, she attended the Coast Guard Sea Marshal Force Orientation Training, equipping her with specialized expertise in maritime security operations.

International Training and Collaboration: One of her notable achievements includes participating in the Visit Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) Training on Radiation and Nuclear Detection in Batam, Indonesia. This international training not only broadened her expertise but also demonstrated her ability to collaborate with global partners in enhancing maritime security.

Policy and Symposium Engagement: LTJG RUELO also attended lectures on the Philippine Maritime Policy on the West Philippine Sea and participated in a Maritime Security Symposium. These engagements highlight her interest in policy development and her commitment to staying informed about critical maritime issues.
