Even before the establishment of Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice)-Central Mindanao University (CMU) Collaborative Project, CMU has been an active partner of the PhilRice in seed network activities such as conduct of preliminary and adaptability tests of promising rice lines and promotion of latest rice production technologies through the University’s Research and Extension Units. The
Project is located at the southwestern portion of CMU property along the Sayre Highway, Musuan, Maramag, Bukidnon. It is accessible to public transportations plying Bukidnon, Cagayan, Davao, part of Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Lanao routes. With the strong collaborative relationship between the two institutions, a contract was signed in April 2001 for the lease of fifty (50) ha rice land from CMU for a term of 25 years. Additional four (4) ha was added in 2004 where the buildings and other facilities were constructed. The facilities were inaugurated on July 17, 2004. To date, the total leased area is 96 ha. The Project has the following facilities: Office and Seed Warehouse; Seed Processing Facility; Solar and Mechanical Dryers; Assorted Farm Equipment, concrete lined irrigation canal; and motor vehicles. The Project establishes in its 95.34 hectares of various in**ed ricw seed production for popular and in demand rice varieties for foundation and registered seed classes. For the past ten (20) years, based on its seed production output, the Project has been serving the seed requirement of seed growers, and farmers, particularly in Northern Mindanao and the neighboring provinces of Davao, Cotabato, Zamboanga, Lanao, Surigao, Agusan and has reached the islands of Negros, Bohol and Leyte in the Visayas. The Project has forged linkages, partnerships and collaboration with Government Organizations, Non-Government Organizations, and private entities and stakeholders involved in the rice industry.
