The Mindanao State University College of Education (MSU-CED), in collaboration with the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) โ Division of Lanao del Sur I (LDS I), successfully conducted the 1st and 2nd Sessions of Teachersโ Training on Reading Education 2.0 on August 8, 2026. Held at the MSU Marawi International Convention Center (ICC), the training gathered elementary teachers from the Division of LDS I to strengthen their knowledge and practices in reading instruction and promote improved literacy outcomes among learners.
The program commenced with opening remarks from OIC Schools Division Superintendent Jamira P. Sarip, who emphasized the importance of equipping teachers from the Division of LDS I to elevate learners' reading abilities and literacy. She highlighted the goal of moving beyond basic decoding, stating, โDapat ang ating learners ay hindi nakakabasa lang through recognition or decoding, but nakakabasa with comprehension. That is our aim.โ She added, โReading is the master key that unlocks all other areas of knowledge.โ
Following the opening remarks, Director of the University Extension Services Center Prof. Melencio C. Jalova, Jr., delivered an inspirational message, praising the collaboration for responding to essential school needs within an extension framework centered on sustainability and resilience. โThis is what extension is all about: the university sharing its knowledge and expertise, listening to the needs of our partner communities, and working together to develop practical solutions that can make a difference,โ Jalova noted, reminding participants that โteachers help shape livesโ and thanking them for continuing to learn so their students may benefit.
In the morning session, Dr. Rohanifa T. Mama-Marohombsar served as the resource speaker for the topic, โThe Power of Storytelling: A Guide to Teaching Short Stories,โ which concluded with a hands-on workshop, output presentation, and an interactive Q&A portion. Meanwhile, in the afternoon, Prof. Norhanifah D. G**o, LPT, MAED, served as the resource speaker for โUsing Interactive Reading Instructional Materials to Develop Love in Reading,โ engaging participants in practical material design followed by a hands-on workshop activity and interactive Q&A.
The initiative underscores the shared commitment of MSU-CED and MBHTE Division of LDS I to empowering educators through evidence-based, learner-centered reading strategies. By equipping local teachers with practical instructional tools and engaging methods, the multi-session program aims to build a strong foundation for sustainable literacy development, ultimately fostering a culture of confident and passionate readers across the Division of Lanao del Sur I.
