PNP MANHUNT STRIKES REGION 10’s MOST-WANTED LIST: MARANTAO VICE MAYOR ARRESTED FOR MURDER

The Philippine National Police, under the command of PNP Chief PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., apprehended the Vice Mayor of Marantao, Lanao del Sur, who was listed as Region 10’s No. 4 Most Wanted Person for Murder and Frustrated Murder on August 21, 2026.

The 36-year-old married Filipino government employee was arrested at about 8:45 PM inside a local inn in Barangay San Miguel. He is a resident of Marantao, Lanao del Sur, and was likewise listed as the No. 3 Provincial Most Wanted Person and No. 1 Municipal Most Wanted Person.

The apprehension was carried out by the Iligan City Mobile Force Company (ICMFC) Tracker Team, together with trackers and personnel from various PNP intelligence, regional, mobile force, investigation, and police station units. Their focused efforts led to the successful location and arrest of the wanted person.

The accused is facing charges of Murder, for which no bail is recommended, and Frustrated Murder. The warrants were issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 44 in Initao, Misamis Oriental.

“Ang posisyon sa gobyerno ay hindi nagbibigay ng proteksyon laban sa pananagutan. Kapag may warrant of arrest, ipatutupad ito ng ating mga pulis alinsunod sa batas at tamang proseso,” said PGEN Nartatez.

“This arrest demonstrates the PNP’s determination to locate wanted persons and enforce court-issued warrants regardless of their status or position. Our personnel will remain focused on bringing those sought by the courts into proper custody,” he added.

The arrest supports the PNP Focused Agenda, a framework for transformation that strengthens police operations and advances the key priority on Enhanced Managing Police Operations through the focused pursuit of wanted persons.

The accused is currently under the custody of Police Station 1 of the local police office for proper disposition.

As the PNP strengthens its pursuit of wanted persons and accountability under the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., it assures the public of “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman.”

PHP2.04 Million Worth of Suspected Shabu Seized in Maguing, Lanao del Sur

A joint police operation led by the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit, PRO BAR (RDEU PRO BAR), together with the Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office’s Provincial Special Operations Group, Provincial Intelligence Unit, Maguing Municipal Police Station, 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company, and 1403rd Regional Mobile Force Company of RMFB 14-A, resulted in the seizure of approximately 300 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated value of PHP2,040,000.00 during a buy-bust operation on August 19, 2026, in Barangay Bato-Bato, Maguing, Lanao del Sur.

During the operation, a suspect identified as alias “Laky” and his unidentified male companion allegedly sold three sachets containing a white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu to a police poseur-buyer.

Following the successful consummation of the transaction and as the police team moved to effect the arrest, the suspect allegedly resisted and fired at the operating police officers, prompting the team to return fire in response to the immediate threat.

Alias “Laky” sustained a gunshot wound and was immediately brought to Tamparan District Hospital for medical treatment but was later pronounced dead by the attending physician. His unidentified companion managed to escape and remains at large.

Recovered during the operation were approximately 300 grams of suspected shabu valued at PHP2,040,000.00, buy-bust money, one Springfield Armory .45 caliber pistol, Serial No. M7884, with magazine and ammunition, one mobile phone, one driver’s license, one brown sling bag, and four fired cartridge cases believed to be caliber .45.

All recovered items will be submitted to the Regional Forensic Unit BAR for examination and proper disposition, while the SOCO Team processed the encounter site.

PATAY ang dalawa katao habang sugatan naman ang isa pa nang sila ay pagbabarilin sa Sitio Panang, Brgy. Salbu, Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur kaninang umaga.

Kinilala ni PNP BARMM spokesperson Capt. Steffi Salanguit ang mga nasawi na sina Kamarudin Mangansakan Ebus, isang businessman at Mohalidin Latip Esmael, pawang taga Cotabato City.

Sugatan naman si Kenedie Abdul Adin, laborer, na residente rin ng Cotabato City.

Batay sa ulat, pauwi na ang mga biktima mula Datu Unsay patungo sanang Cotabato City nang sila ay pagbabarilin ng riding in tandem suspects.

Nagpapatuloy pa ang imbestigasyon ng PNP sa krimen.

NAGPATUPAD ang Barangay Kitapok sa bayan ng Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur, ng ordinansa na nagtatakda ng pagsusuot ng hijab at wastong Islamic attire sa barangay.

Batay sa Barangay Ordinance No. 001, Series of 2026, o “Hijab and Proper Islamic Attire Ordinance of Barangay Kitapok,” layunin nitong ipatupad ang naaangkop na pananamit alinsunod sa Islamic attire sa lugar.

Ayon sa inilabas na impormasyon ng Barangay Local Government Unit, may kaukulang parusa ang mga lalabag sa ordinansa.

Sa unang paglabag, verbal warning at counseling ang ipatutupad; limang-daang piso naman ang multa sa ikalawang paglabag.

Sa ikatlong paglabag, maaaring patawan ng dalawang libong pisong multa at 30 araw na community service, dalawang oras kada araw.

TWO STUDENTS CONFIRMED DEAD IN ZAMBOANGA CITY SCHOOL SHOOTING
LOOK: Two students were confirmed dead following the shooting incident inside a private school in Barangay Tumaga, Zamboanga City, on Tuesday morning, August 18, 2026.

Zamboanga City Mayor Khymer Adan Olaso confirmed the deaths of the two student victims.

The shooting prompted the evacuation of other students to a designated evacuation area as police and other law enforcement personnel responded to the scene.

Police Regional Office Zamboanga Peninsula spokesperson Maj. Shellamie Chang said the alleged shooter has yet to be identified. Authorities are also investigating how the firearm allegedly used in the incident was brought into the school.

Personnel from the Zamboanga City Police Office, including Station 7 officers and crime scene operatives, are currently conducting an investigation at the scene.

The Veritas Ledger is withholding the identities and other identifying information of the victims, who are minors.
