BWC CONFERRED PLAQUES OF RECOGNITION TO THE PLGU LDS AND ITS PGAD OFFICE AS WPS CHAMPIONS IN BARMM

In the exercise of its mandate to promote gender equality, women's empowerment, and the localization of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), the Bangsamoro Women Commission - BARMM and Bangsamoro Women Commission - Lanao del Sur formally conferred the Plaques of Recognition upon the Provincial Government of Lanao Del Sur, through the leadership of Governor Mamintal "Bombit" Alonto Adiong Jr., and the Provincial Gender and Development LDS, headed by Ms. Alliah Mujahedah Kibad Lucman on July 8, 2026 at Ranaw Business Hotel, Marawi City, Lanao del Sur, in recognition of their exemplary leadership and significant contributions to the advancement of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda in the Bangsamoro Region.

The recognition affirms the Province of Lanao del Sur's historic distinction as the first province in BARMM to successfully localize and operationalize the Women, Peace and Security Agenda through the establishment of the Provincial Committee on Women, Peace and Security (PCWPS) and its Technical Working Group, the formulation and official launching of the Provincial Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security (PAP-WPS 2024–2028), and the successful province-wide roll-out of the WPS framework across its 39 municipalities.

The Bangsamoro Women Commission likewise recognizes the pivotal role of the Provincial Gender and Development Office in providing technical leadership and coordinating the implementation of WPS initiatives, strengthening Gender and Development institutional mechanisms, and promoting the meaningful participation of women in peacebuilding, governance, and sustainable development.

The conferment of these recognitions underscores the strong partnership between the Bangsamoro Women Commission and the Provincial Government of Lanao del Sur in advancing the principles of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda. It further acknowledges the Province's institutional commitment to gender-responsive governance and its role as a regional model in translating policy commitments into concrete programs that advance peace, inclusion, and the empowerment of Bangsamoro women.

Again, the Bangsamoro Women Commission extends its sincere appreciation and congratulations to the Provincial Government of Lanao del Sur and the Provincial Gender and Development Office for their unwavering commitment to promoting inclusive governance, sustainable peace, and the welfare of Bangsamoro women.

The joint session also served as a platform for groundbreaking cultural and policy insights, underscored by Hanifah P. Andamun of the Bangsamoro Women Commission. Andamun presented a pivotal policy research paper entitled "True Maratabat: Reframing Honor as the Protection of Women and Children in Meranaw Context." The study offers a powerful paradigm shift, aligning traditional Meranaw concepts of honor and pride (maratabat) directly with the defense, respect, and elevation of women and children's rights.
