Director of the MSU Aga Khan Museum, Dr. Linang M. Cabugatan highlighted that preserving culture is about carrying heritage forward with pride and giving the next generation a clear reason to continue it.

During the Ka-Kulintang Competition this morning, MSU System President Atty. Paisalin P.D. Tago, CPA, reminded everyone that the event was more than a competition. He highlighted that gathering around traditional music allows the university community to honor its shared roots while celebrating its collective identity.

​President Tago's message reinforced the spirit of "Inklusibong Pamantasan"—a commitment to preserving rich cultural heritage while building a unified future. MARAWI CITY, August 26, 2026 — Embracing its milestone anniversary theme, "MSU @ 65: Kultura, Kahusayan, at Kaunlaran Tungo sa Isang Inklusibong Pamantasan," Mindanao State University (MSU) marked its 65th Founding Anniversary with a vibrant 1st Ka-Kulintang Competition held at the Aga Khan Museum Grounds, MSU-Main Campus, Marawi City. The event was part of the university’s anniversary festivities celebrating its rich cultural heritage and brought together talented kulintang performers and cultural enthusiasts from various MSU departments and external units. The activity was attended by MSU System President Atty. Paisalin P.D. Tago, CPA, together with university officials and representatives from the different external units.

​The competition served as a meaningful celebration of Meranaw culture and tradition, providing participants with an opportunity to showcase their musical talents, honor ancestral traditions, strengthen cultural identity, and inspire the younger generation to appreciate and preserve the cultural legacy of the Meranaw people. In the MSU Category, the Housing Management Office emerged as champion. In the Open Category, Team Potri Pagiruin was declared champion, followed by Team Marogong (Muntia Pagnawan) as first runner-up, Team Potri Pindariday as second runner-up, and Team Potri Zenganin as third runner-up.

​The category champions received ₱15,000 cash prizes and champion trophies, while trophies and cash awards were also presented to the other winners. Special awards likewise recognized outstanding performances, musical artistry, and talents demonstrated throughout the competition. The Ka-Kulintang Competition became one of the significant highlights of MSU’s 65th Founding Anniversary, underscoring the university’s continuing commitment to preserving indigenous traditions, promoting Meranaw cultural heritage, and fostering cultural pride among its students and the wider MSU community.

Key university officials, college deans, faculty, and staff, led by MSU System President Paisalin P.D. Tago, CPA, convened at the OP Conference Room on August 25, 2026, for the Academic Planning Committee (APC) meeting.

Among the notable agenda items discussed during the meeting were the proposed Institute of Bangsamoro Studies and Policy Research, the proposed Mindanao Law Institute, the presentation of Impactful Research, Extension, and Development Initiatives (ImREDI), and the proposed establishment of an MSU Policy Brief Series Publication.

The discussions paved the way for stronger academic, research, and policy initiatives.

Financial assistance is reaching MSU students as the university facilitates the release of the regular Tulong Dunong Program (TDP) grants.

MSU System President Paisalin P.D. Tago, CPA, personally led the release of the regular Tulong Dunong Program (TDP) grants to qualified students today, August 24, at the International Convention Center.

The TDP grants provide qualified students with financial assistance to help meet their educational needs and expenses.
