As we officially conclude Linggo ng Kabataan 2026, the Sangguniang Kabataan of Barangay Poblacion, Marihatag extends its deepest gratitude and appreciation to every youth who has faithfully, actively, and wholeheartedly participated not only throughout this year's celebration but also from the beginning of our term until the end of our administration.

Your unwavering support, enthusiasm, and commitment have been the driving force behind every successful program, project, and activity we have conducted. 𝐎𝐅𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐈𝐀𝐋 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓!!!

The Sangguniang Kabataan officially announces the cancellation of the Linggo ng Kabataan 2026 Basketball Tournament, effective immediately.

This decision was not made lightly, but after careful deliberation, the council has reached a consensus that proceeding with the tournament under current circumstances compromises the integrity, safety, and primary objective of our youth programs.

This cancellation is grounded on the following critical points:

• 𝐍𝐨𝐧-𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐠𝐞 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬: The SK operates under legal frameworks and mandates specifically established to serve the youth—individuals aged 15 to 30 years old. Despite repeated announcements and explanations, several teams continued to include players aged 30 and above. Allowing non-youth participants deprives the youth players of the opportunity to showcase their talents in a space created specifically for them.

• 𝐍𝐨𝐧-𝐍𝐞𝐠𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Linggo ng Kabataan is not merely a sports festival; it is a holistic celebration aimed at building civic responsibility. Attendance at key events—specifically the Katipunan ng Kabataan (KK) Assembly, the Community Clean-up Drive, and the Opening Celebration—was set as a mandatory requirement. The absence of many registered basketball players during these vital activities demonstrates a lack of engagement in the broader mission of youth development.

• 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫𝐬: The council wishes to emphasize that we have consistently supported our local players and sports enthusiasts—even in initiatives outside the Sangguniang Kabataan organization. We have never neglected the sports community; however, mutual respect and compliance with agreed-upon rules must be maintained.

Discipline and respect must always come first. Sportsmanship is not defined solely by how one plays on the court, but by how one respects the rules, the organizers, and the community off the court.

We remind everyone that Sangguniang Kabataan funds, efforts, and programs are strictly for the youth and by the youth.
