CDRRMC 3rd Quarter Meeting

The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council successfully conducted its 3rd Quarter meeting today at the 3rd Floor, Masbate Building, City Hall.

The meeting was presided over by the CDRRMC Chairperson and City Mayor, Atty. Olga T. Kho, and was convened to discuss and deliberate on significant matters concerning disaster risk reduction and management, preparedness, response, and other urgent concerns requiring the Council’s attention and appropriate action.

As part of the meeting, Ms. Rizza Bartolata of DOST-PAGASA presented the latest weather forecast, along with an update on the prevailing El Niño phenomenon and its potential implications for the country, particularly for Masbate City. The presentation provided the Council with important information to guide preparedness measures, risk assessment, and appropriate actions in anticipation of possible weather- and climate-related impacts.

Meanwhile, Mr. Isaias F. Bigol Jr. presented the highlights and accomplishments of the CDRRMO for the previous quarter, showcasing the various initiatives and activities undertaken to strengthen the City’s disaster preparedness, response capabilities, and overall resilience.

Other key matters discussed during the meeting included the programming, inclusions, and allocation of the DRRM Fund for disaster preparedness initiatives; the proposed ex*****on of Memoranda of Agreement (MOAs) for stockpiling of essential resources and the establishment of a K9 Unit; preparations for the upcoming Cityhood Anniversary activities; and the scheduled Incident Command System (ICS) and Emergency Operations Center (EOC) training for CDRRMC members to further enhance coordination, command, control, and decision-making during emergencies and disasters.

The CDRRMC remains committed to strengthening its partnerships and continuously improving the City’s disaster risk reduction and management systems toward a safer, more prepared, and disaster-resilient Masbate City.

Dahil sa hanging Habagat, umabot na sa ilang bahagi ng Luzon at Visayas ang usok mula sa forest fires sa Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Maaaring magdulot ang haze ng hirap sa paghinga, pag-ubo, pananakit ng dibdib, pangangati o pagluluha ng mga mata, at paglala ng mga sakit sa baga tulad ng hika. Dobleng pag-iingat ang kailangan para sa mga bata, matatanda, at mga may dati nang sakit sa baga o puso.

Habang nagpapatuloy ang banta ng haze, mag-suot ng mask kung lalabas ng bahay. Alamin ang lagay ng hangin sa inyong lugar at unahin ang kaligtasan. Maging handa sa banta ng Haze!

‎The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) has successfully completed the Standard First Aid Training of Trainers, further strengthening our knowledge, skills, and capacity to respond effectively during emergencies and disasters.
‎
‎The training provided participants with essential first aid knowledge and practical skills, while also developing our capability to teach, demonstrate, and share these lifesaving techniques with others. Beyond learning how to respond to injuries and medical emergencies, the training emphasized the importance of preparedness, proper assessment, teamwork, and timely intervention.
‎
‎As DRRM practitioners, we believe that preparedness is not only about having equipment and plans it is also about having competent and confident responders who are ready to act when every second counts.
‎
‎The knowledge gained from this training will be cascaded to our fellow responders, volunteers, partner agencies, and communities, helping build a stronger culture of preparedness and a wider network of lifesavers.

Kinansela ng Montenegro Shipping Lines, Inc. ang biyahe ng lahat ng fastcraft sa rutang Masbate City - Pilar, Sorsogon ngayong ika-29 ng Agosto 2026 dahil sa masamang lagay ng panahon dulot ng Habagat.

Sa kasalukuyan, patuloy ang operasyon ng pantalan habang hinihintay ang mga susunod na abiso ukol sa kanilang biyahe. As of 2:00 AM today, 29 August 2026, the Low Pressure Area (LPA 08i) is being monitored INSIDE the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and has a "LOW" chance of developing into a Tropical Depression within the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the other Low Pressure Area (LPA 08j) OUTSIDE the PAR is being monitored and has a "MEDIUM" chance of developing into a Tropical Depression within the next 24 hours.

All are advised to monitor updates from DOST-PAGASA

Earthquake Drill
Nursery Technical-Vocational High School

The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office served as evaluators during the earthquake drill at Nursery Technical-Vocational High School in Barangay Nursery, City of Masbate. The activity focused on how well the school could carry out its emergency procedures and evacuate students and personnel during an earthquake.

CDRRMO personnel observed the implementation of the school’s Building Earthquake Evacuation Plan, the roles of its Disaster Control Group, and the actions of the emergency teams throughout the drill. The evaluation also helped identify practices that worked well, as well as gaps that need to be addressed to improve the school’s preparedness and response.

Drills such as this give students, teachers, and school personnel the chance to practice their roles before an actual disaster occurs. They also help schools test their plans under realistic conditions and make necessary adjustments based on the results.

The CDRRMO continues to work closely with schools and other stakeholders in strengthening disaster preparedness. Sustained coordination, regular drills, and joint capacity-building activities are important in building safer schools and a more disaster-resilient City of Masbate.
