Violence against women (VAW) and girls is not just a major public health problem but also a grave violation of human rights. It extremely manifests gender inequity, targeting women and girls because of their subordinate status in the society. The United Nations define VAW as “any act of gender-based violence that results in, or likely to result in, physical, sexual, or mental harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or private life.” Violence and the threats of violence can be experienced by every woman of any age, skin color, gender identity, ethnicity, religion, disabilities, economic, and social status. - PCW
UN come up with the idea to spread awareness to people all around the world. The 18-Day Campaign to End VAW, an advocacy campaign that is observed annually from November 25 to December 12 as mandated by Proclamation 1172 s. 2006.
The BLGU-Unda Dayawan, Masiu Lanao del Sur integrated with this campaign to achieve the goal of VAW Free Philippines lead by Punong Barangay, Hon. Fahad S. Casad unite together with the Facilitators from MSSD-Masiu Interns, Sahawi Ibrahim, Nasiba Dima and Muslima Baragona as they also conducted their Group Work Session with the women participants in the brgy. Also with the presence of assigned brgy. nurse Ms. Nihaya M. H. Abdulazis as she shared also her thoughts and their roles as a medical practitioners for VAW cases and the invited speaker of interns Ms. Camilla S. Casad,RSW to discuss the R.A 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children) and R.A 8972 (Solo Parent Welfare Act).
