HAZE ADVISORY – MATAG-OB, LEYTE

As of 10:00 PM today, 2 September 2026, air quality monitoring data from Windy.com indicates that Matag-ob currently has an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 75, improving from an earlier reading of AQI 88.

An AQI of 51–100 is classified as “Moderate,” meaning that air quality remains generally acceptable; however, some sensitive individuals may experience health effects, particularly those with respiratory conditions, children, older persons, and individuals sensitive to air pollution.

The public is advised to remain vigilant and take the following precautions:

1• Sensitive individuals should limit prolonged or strenuous outdoor activities if they experience discomfort or respiratory symptoms.

2• Consider keeping doors and windows closed when haze conditions become noticeable.

3• Use appropriate face protection when prolonged outdoor exposure is necessary, particularly for sensitive individuals.

4• Stay hydrated and seek medical attention if experiencing persistent difficulty breathing or other respiratory symptoms.

5• Continue monitoring official announcements and local air quality conditions.

Based on the current monitoring trend and forecast information, air quality conditions are expected to gradually improve and normalize by Saturday. The Municipal Emergency Operations Center will continue monitoring the situation and provide updates as necessary.

The public is advised to take necessary precautions due to the presence of haze affecting parts of the Philippines.

As of this advisory, Windy monitoring indicates an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 88 in Matag-ob, which is within the Moderate/Fair range.

Sensitive individuals, including children, senior citizens, and those with respiratory conditions, are advised to limit prolonged outdoor exposure. The public is encouraged to wear appropriate masks when haze is noticeable and seek medical attention if experiencing difficulty breathing.

Yesterday, Cebu was under Light to Moderate Haze. As of today's update, it has increased to Moderate to Heavy Haze. 🔴

UPDATE AS OF 11:00 AM TODAY

The wing van that was stuck at Sitio Campisaw, Barangay Sta. Rosa, Matag-ob has been successfully removed.

However, motorists traveling to Palompon via Matag-ob are still advised to exercise extra caution, especially drivers of large trucks and heavy vehicles.

The road has narrow sections and sharp curves, where vehicle tires may get stuck in the drainage canals.

Motorists are advised to slow down, maintain proper positioning, and exercise extra caution when negotiating narrow roads and sharp curves.

UPDATE AS OF 7:00 PM

The pickup truck involved in the vehicular accident in Barangay Bonoy, Matag-ob, Leyte has now been successfully retrieved through the joint efforts of the BFP, PNP, and MATRU.

The driver, who is from Barugo, Leyte, was confirmed safe and has been safely sent home.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to Mayor Bernie Tacoy for providing a boom truck to assist in the successful retrieval of the vehicle.

Thank you to all responders and personnel who worked together to ensure the safe resolution of the incident.
