The Municipal Government of Matag-ob, under the leadership of Municipal Mayor 𝐇𝐨𝐧. 𝐁𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐆. 𝐓𝐚𝐜𝐨𝐲 together with the Sangguniang Bayan Member and the Committee on Agriculture 𝐇𝐨𝐧. 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐨 𝐀𝐥𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐨, successfully conducted the turnover ceremony and releasing of chicks to the first two batches of gamefowl beneficiaries—providing not only resources but meaningful opportunities for livelihood development and income generation.

Beyond the distribution, the activity also served as an avenue for learning, where beneficiaries were equipped with essential knowledge on proper chick rearing, nutrition, and health management. This ensures that every starter flock becomes a strong foundation for a productive and sustainable livelihood.

This initiative reflects the LGU’s continued commitment to empowering Matag-obans through responsible and viable gamefowl production, anchored on livelihood enhancement and enterprise development that promotes long-term sustainability in the municipality.

The Municipal Government of Matag-ob, Leyte conducted a site inspection of the Municipal Nursery as part of its ongoing preparations for priority programs and projects.

Led by 𝐌𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐚𝐲𝐨𝐫 𝐁𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐆. 𝐓𝐚𝐜𝐨𝐲, together with Municipal 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐫.𝐉𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐞 𝐋. 𝐀𝐥𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐫. 𝐂𝐞𝐬𝐚𝐫, the activity ensured that facilities are functional and compliant with project standards. Key personnel and stakeholders, including program focal persons, an OJT student, and Project-In-Charge Lea B. Lavador, were also present.

This initiative supports the implementation of the 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐍𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐤 𝐅𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐋𝐆𝐒𝐅-𝐒𝐄𝐅, emphasizing the nursery’s role in producing quality planting materials and promoting sustainable food sources.

The Local Government remains committed to advancing food security, health, and community resilience through effective planning and collaboration.

The Municipal Government of Matag-ob continues to strengthen its commitment to sustainable agriculture and livelihood development through the successful conduct of a Farm Validation Activity.

The Special program under the Office of the Municipal Mayor conducted a Farm Validation for the remaining Beneficiaries of the Gamefowl Production and Livelihood Program on March 25, 2026 at Brgy. San Sebastian.

The Municipal Mayor 𝐇𝐨𝐧. 𝐁𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐆. 𝐓𝐚𝐜𝐨𝐲 was present during this validation together with the OMM-Special Program Focal person Jhastine Jay M. Digamon.

This initiative ensures that our beneficiaries under the livelihood programs—such as are properly guided, supported, and compliant with program standards. Through on-site validation, we assess farm conditions, provide technical assistance, and identify opportunities for improvement to ensure long-term success and productivity.

‎In line with its commitment to sustainable agriculture and the continuous development of its fruit-bearing tree program, the Municipality of Matag-ob warmly welcomed the Horticulture and Agricultural Education and Extension Faculty from Visayas State University (VSU)—Dr. Gloria Bancale , Ma'am Anna Martha C. Monsanto, Mr. Malvin Datan, and Mr. Reian Laniba—for a site visitation and validation on March 26, 2026. The activity focused on the establishment of the Scion Grove and assessment of the Municipal Nursery.

The Municipal Government of Matag-ob conducted a Farm Validation for the beneficiaries of the Gamefowl Production Livelihood Program on March 5, 2026, in Brgy. Mansalip and Brgy. Cansoso.

Present during the activity were Municipal Mayor Bernandino G. Tacoy, Eugene Gonzalez, MAO Livestock Coordinator, and Project Development Officers Andrian Real and Jhastine Jay Digamon, whose presence showed support for the successful implementation of the program and the continued development of livelihood opportunities for local farmers.

The activity aimed to validate and assess the preparedness of the identified beneficiaries and their farm areas to ensure the proper and effective implementation of the livelihood program. This initiative forms part of the Local Government Unit’s continuing efforts to support sustainable livelihood opportunities and strengthen the agricultural sector in the municipality.

Training Highlight: Precision Planting for Fruit Tree Success! 🌱 On October 17 at 1:00 PM, LGU Matag-ob conducted a hands-on training on Selection & Preparation of Planting Materials and Systems at the Barangay Hall of Brgy. Masaba, Matag-ob, Leyte.

Participants actively engaged in:
📏 Computing the required number of planting materials for lanzones, mangosteen, durian, jackfruit, and guyabano
🪜 Using planting frames and measuring tapes to simulate proper spacing and layout
🌳 Identifying certified seeds and scions for each crop
🧮 Estimating seed-to-seedling conversion for nursery planning
🛠️ Discussing site preparation tools and techniques for long-term productivity

Fruit-Bearing Tree Project Household Training 📅 October 14, 2025 | Matag-ob, Leyte
A productive day of learning and hands-on practice with our participating households! 🌱
✅ We began with a recap of permaculture principles, cultural practices, and water management techniques—essential foundations for nurturing healthy fruit-bearing trees.
✅ Tackled the common weeds, insect pests, and diseases affecting seedlings, and discussed preventive measures to protect them during early growth stages.
✅ Introduced biopesticides and attractants using locally available and cost-effective materials:
🔸 Chili-Garlic Spray – a pungent foliar spray that repels soft-bodied insects like aphids and caterpillars
🔸 Papaya Leaf Extract – a natural deterrent against leaf-eating pests and fungal pathogens
🔸 SuperNet – a pheromone-based attractant for monitoring and trapping fruit flies
🔸 Methyl Eugenol – used to lure and trap male fruit flies, reducing population and damage
✅ Households actively participated in the preparation and application of these natural solutions.
✅ 📸 Photo documentation captured the pesticide formulation.
This training empowers our community to adopt sustainable, low-cost pest management practices while strengthening household-level orchard care. 🌿👨‍🌾👩‍🌾

A successful day of learning and sharing sustainable farming practices! 💚

We presented a video featuring a 1000sqm permaculture demo farm in Coron, Palawan, showcasing how nature-based systems can thrive with minimal inputs. 🌾🐓🌳

Participants also learned practical cultural practices for fruit-bearing trees:
🥥 Bunot as mulch to retain moisture
💩 Organic fertilizers from manure
✂️ Pruning for better growth
💧 1.5L bottles as DIY rain collectors and watering tools—perfect for areas with limited water access!
