LOOK| MATANOG CONDUCTS PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED CLUP 2026–2035

The Municipality of Matanog, under the leadership of the Iron Lady, Hon. Mayor Zohria Saglayan Bansil, successfully conducted the Public Hearing on the Proposed Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) 2026–2035 on August 11, 2026, at the Marayag Pavilion, Bayanga Norte, Matanog, Maguindanao del Norte.

The public hearing was co-facilitated by the Office of the Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator (MPDC), headed by EnP Muhajiren T. Macapuling, the Office of the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer (MENRO), headed by Benyasser A. Sarigan, together with the members of the CLUP Technical Working Group (TWG).

The activity was attended by representatives from various BARMM Ministries, the Provincial Planning and Development Office of Maguindanao del Norte (PPDO-MDN), members of the Sangguniang Bayan headed by Hon. Vice Mayor Sanaira I. Ali-Imam, barangay officials, and various sectoral representatives and stakeholders.

The public hearing served as an important platform to present the draft CLUP 2026–2035, gather public comments and recommendations, and provide stakeholders with an opportunity to participate in shaping the municipality’s future land use and spatial development direction.

More than a statutory requirement, the activity underscored the commitment of the LGU Matanog to participatory, inclusive, and evidence-based planning, ensuring that the CLUP reflects the needs, aspirations, environmental realities, and development priorities of the people of Matanog.

WOW Matanog: From Warzone to Economic Zone

The Municipality of Matanog led by Hon. Zohria Saglayan Bansil joined the IDC’s Benchmarking in Del Carmen, Surigao del Norte to explore its Circular Economy and other innovative practices on July 26-30, 2026.

One of the highlights during the Learning Visit was exploring the Del Carmen’s Trash-to-Fuel initiative, a waste recovery facility that converts non-recyclable plastics and residual wastes into usable fuel through a thermal conversion process.

Mayor Alfredo M. Corro II, warmly welcomed the IDC delegates and personally explained the innovations in his Municipality under his administration, he quoted that “Governance is not an instant will, it requires time, patience and perseverance in achieving genuine leadership”. IDC connects its context to Del Carmen’s in terms of historical foundation which turned the community from a rebel-zone into one of the most developing rural communities.

The IDC delegates were also able to visit the Mangrove Boardwalk which highlights tourism in the locality.

FROM CULTIVATION TO CELEBRATION!

The Municipality of Matanog led by Hon. Zohria Saglayan Bansil successfully concluded the SECURE 1.0 Culmination Program, together with the Semestral HAPAG (Project WAR TO GREEN) Assessment and the Celebration of Nutrition Month, bringing together government partners, community development partners, and beneficiaries in celebrating a shared commitment to food security, resilience, and sustainable development.

The event featured showcasing SECURE-supported community projects, recognition of outstanding Community Champions and HAPAG Awardees, sharing of success stories, and the turnover of key support initiatives. It also highlighted the remarkable transformation of communities through sustainable agriculture, strong partnerships, and active community participation.

The Municipality extends its heartfelt appreciation to the UNWFP, Bangsamoro Food Security Task Force , partner agencies, Barangay LGUs, Community Development Partners, and all stakeholders for making SECURE Batch 1.0 a meaningful success.

The Local Government Unit of Matanog successfully convened its 2nd Quarter Joint Local Special Bodies (LSB) Meeting at Marayag Pavilion, Barangay Bayanga Norte, Matanog, Maguindanao del Norte on June 26, 2026 bringing together members of the Peace, Security and Safety Cluster, Social Cluster, and Environment and Development Cluster to review accomplishments, discuss emerging concerns, and strengthen collaborative governance.

The meeting was presided over by Zohria S. Bansil, who emphasized the importance of sustained inter-agency coordination in advancing inclusive and responsive local governance.

A key highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the PhilHealth BARMM on the PhilHealth YAKAP Program, providing participants with valuable information on how the program can enhance access to healthcare services and benefit the residents of Matanog.

Under the Peace, Security and Safety Cluster, updates were presented by the Matanog Municipal Police Station, Marine Battalion Landing Team-2, and the Municipal Advisory Council for Reconciliation and Unification. Reports highlighted that the municipality remains generally peaceful and stable. The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) also presented the latest weather updates, ongoing disaster preparedness and safety interventions, while MACRU shared progress on its continuing Rido settlement initiatives and other peacebuilding efforts.

The Social Cluster featured updates from various municipal offices and government agencies on their ongoing and upcoming programs. Civil Society Organizations, including Kadtabanga Foundation, and TASBIKKA, Inc. expressed their appreciation for the Municipality’s continued partnership and support in implementing community-based initiatives. Child Representatives of the Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC) also actively participated by raising issues affecting children in the municipality, with the Council reaffirming its commitment to strengthen child protection programs and ensure that children’s voices remain part of local governance.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) presented updates on environmental initiatives and upcoming programs aimed at promoting environmental protection, climate resilience, and sustainable development.

Also in attendance were municipal department heads and partner agencies, including Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education – Matanog, Ministry of Social Services and Development – Matanog, and the Rural Health Unit of Matanog, all of which presented their respective accomplishments, ongoing programs, and plans in support of the Municipality’s development agenda.

The successful conduct of the Joint Local Special Bodies Meeting reaffirmed the Municipality of Matanog’s commitment to participatory governance, strengthened inter-agency collaboration, and unified efforts toward achieving a peaceful, healthy, resilient, and progressive community.

📊 Matanog Strengthens Commitment to Data-Driven Governance

On June 22, 2026, the Municipal Planning and Development Office (MPDO) successfully facilitated the 2027 Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) Convening of the CBMS Municipal Coordinating Board, bringing together local officials and key stakeholders in preparation for the 2027 CBMS implementation.

During the activity, Vice Mayor Hon. Sanaira I. Ali-Imam emphasized the importance of CBMS in generating reliable data to support evidence-based planning, informed decision-making, and the effective delivery of government programs and services.

Participants also received valuable updates from Naldo G. Pendaliday, MPA, Chief Statistical Specialist, on the significance of CBMS in strengthening local governance and ensuring the municipality’s eligibility for the 2027 CBMS National Funding.

The convening concluded with the LGU of Matanog reaffirming its full commitment to the successful implementation of the 2027 CBMS, including its readiness to allocate the necessary budget to support the conduct of the census and ensure its effective implementation.

Together, we continue building a more responsive, data-driven, and people-centered Matanog.

Municipal Planning and Development Officer EnP Muhajiren T. Macapuling participated in today’s Regular Session of the Sangguniang Bayan of Matanog as a Resource Person, providing technical inputs on proposed legislative measures aimed at strengthening child protection and promoting the holistic development of children in the municipality.

During the session, the Sanggunian conducted the First Reading of the following proposed ordinances:

1. An Ordinance requiring children to complete Day Care Center prior to their enrollment or admission to Kindergarten;
2. An Ordinance institutionalizing the Parents Effectiveness Service (PES) to strengthen responsible parenting and family development; and
3. An Ordinance prohibiting the recruitment, membership, and involvement of minors in fraternities, sororities, and all forms of gang groups.

These proposed measures underscore the Municipality of Matanog’s commitment to creating a safer, more nurturing, and child-friendly community through responsive local legislation.
