The National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) strongly condemns the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) for yet another grotesque attempt to romanticize the deaths of its own members and reduce human tragedy into revolutionary propaganda.

The deaths of the five personalities killed in Cauayan, Negros Occidentalโ€”including former student leader Vince Francis Dingdingโ€”should never be twisted into poetic slogans or ideological mythology.

In the eyes of the NTF-ELCAC, these five individuals were not symbols to be glorified nor convenient instruments for recruitment narratives. They were victimsโ€”victims of the CPP-NPA-NDFโ€™s decades of deception, manipulation, and systematic terror-grooming machinery that preys on idealistic young Filipinos and slowly drags them into a cycle of underground radicalization and armed violence.

For decades, the CPP-NPA-NDF has recruited students, workers, peasants, and activists by selling the illusion of heroism and revolution, only to eventually strip them of their humanity and reduce them to their lowest valueโ€”as expendable assets and collateral damage in a failed and false revolution.

Once recruits enter the armed movement, they are transformed from sons and daughters with dreams and futures into mere numbers in casualty reports and names in martyr posters.

This latest statement from the CPP reveals with chilling clarity the movementโ€™s profound moral bankruptcy.

A morally upright organization mourns the loss of life and seeks to preserve it. A humane movement asks why another young Filipino had to die.

But the CPP does the opposite: it glorifies death, aestheticizes violence, and converts grief into propaganda material to inspire another generation toward the same tragic fate.

There is nothing noble in leading young people into armed struggle and then celebrating their deaths after the fact. There is nothing revolutionary in watching families lose sons and daughters while leaders remain distant and insulated from the consequences.

The true cruelty of the CPP-NPA-NDF lies not only in how it recruitsโ€”but in how it abandons and repurposes the dead as political instruments.

The CPP's own words expose this disturbing mindset. In its statement regarding the Cauayan incident, it declared: โ€œSo as there is life, there must be death. That is the inescapable truth of our existence. But death is not a universal equalizer.โ€ It further claimed that โ€œthe death of the Cauayan 5 is heavier than Mt. Kanlaon.โ€ Such language is perhaps the clearest evidence yet of how detached the movement has become from ordinary human compassion.

To reduce death into revolutionary poetry and compare fallen recruits to ideological monuments while families grieve is not courageโ€”it is cruelty. It is the language of a movement that has long ceased valuing life and has instead become addicted to death as fuel for its collapsing cause.

The Filipino people see through this deception. Behind every so-called โ€œmartyrโ€ is a grieving mother, a broken father, a family asking what happened to the child they raised and sacrificed for.

The CPP-NPA-NDF did not elevate these lives. It consumed them. And that is perhaps the greatest indictment against a movement that has always promised liberation but has repeatedly delivered only blood, suffering, and loss.

Five (5) Communist New Peopleโ€™s Army (NPA) Terrorists (C**s) died following a series of armed encounters that transpired between the โ€œMolave Warriorsโ€ of the 15th Infantry Battalion, under 302nd Infantry โ€œAchieverโ€ Brigade, and the remnants of the South-West Front, Komiteng-Rehiyon Negros (SWF, KR-N), in the hinterlands of Brgy. Abaca and Brgy. Poblacion, Cauayan, Negros Occidental on Saturday, May 16, 2026.

As the troops overran the encounter site, they recovered several high-powered fi****ms, including M60 machine gun, M16 rifles, M14 rifle, M203 gr***de launcher, hand gr***de, and other war materiel.

Residents in Cauayan have increasingly cooperated with authorities by providing information on the presence and movement of armed communist remnants hiding in remote areas.

โ€œThe continued collapse of communist terrorist formations in Negros reflects the growing rejection of violent armed struggle by communities once exploited through intimidation, extortion, deception, and fear.โ€ Brigadier General Jumawan, Commander, 302nd Brigade said. Moreover, he said that this encounter further exposes the deteriorating condition of the dismantled SWF whose remaining members continue to suffer heavy losses, dwindling manpower, and declining support from local residents.

Meanwhile, the Brigade Commander emphasized that military operations remain focused on protecting civilians and preventing the remnants of the communist terrorist movement from re-establishing influence in vulnerable communities. On the other hand, he reiterated the governmentโ€™s call for remaining rebels to surrender peacefully and avail themselves of reintegration programs before more lives are lost in a collapsing insurgency already rejected by the people. โ€œItโ€™s unfortunate that many lives were lost, but the troops had to defend the community who are victims of the Communist Terrorist Groupโ€™s (CTGโ€™s) senseless killings by โ€œspy-taggingโ€ innocent civilians.โ€
