The Pre-work Session, Product Development Orientation, and Hands-on Training on Coconut-Based Material Production for the 1st Innovative Development of Coconut-Based Non-Food Products in La Union were successfully conducted on October 5, 2026.

The activity focused on exploring the potential of coconut shells as an innovative, sustainable, and value-adding material, particularly by infusing them into the existing products of our local MSMEs and artisans.

Through hands-on learning and creative experimentation, participating MSMEs gained new ideas on how to transform locally available coconut materials into functional, unique, market-responsive, and environmentally sustainable products.

The coordination meeting with DMMMSU-NLUC was conducted as the initiation phase of the upcoming SSF Coffee Cupping Laboratory for AY 2027. The said SSF project will be a specialized facility for MSMEs and coffee producers to provide them with precise and systematic sensory evaluation, grading, and quality control of their coffee products. Further, the coffee cupping laboratory aims to accommodate coffee farmers and producers across the region to lessen the time and costs required to evaluate the quality of their coffee beans.

From September 10 to 25, 2026, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) - La Union, through its Consumer Protection Division, conducted price and supply monitoring activities in various municipalities across the province. The activity aimed to ensure that Basic Necessities and Prime Commodities (BNPCs) were available in the market and sold in accordance with the prescribed Suggested Retail Prices (SRPs).

As part of its mandate to safeguard consumer welfare and promote fair trade practices, DTI La Union regularly conducts market monitoring to assess compliance with prevailing pricing guidelines and regulations. These efforts help ensure that consumers have access to essential goods at reasonable prices.

Through these monitoring activities, DTI La Union continues to deter profiteering, ensure the adequate supply of essential commodities, and protect the purchasing power of consumers throughout the province.

DTI La Union actively participated in the Capability Building for Out-of-School Youth held on September 25, 2026, at the Peopleโ€™s Hall, MSWD Office, Bauang, La Union, by conducting the Business Expense Savings Training (BEST) Game.

This interactive activity provided OSY participants with practical financial literacy skills, focusing on budgeting, saving, and prioritizing essential expenses. The BEST Game complemented sessions on employment readiness and entrepreneurship, reinforcing the importance of financial discipline in sustaining livelihood ventures.

Through this initiative, DTI La Union strengthened its role in empowering youth with the knowledge and mindset needed to pursue self-reliance and community development.
