𝑶𝒏 𝑴𝒂𝒚 𝟏𝟔, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, 𝒘𝒆 𝒃𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒐𝒇 𝑩𝒓𝒈𝒚. 𝑫𝒂𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒔𝒂𝒏, 𝑴𝒊𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒐, 𝑰𝒍𝒐𝒊𝒍𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 “𝑷𝒂𝒈𝒃𝒖𝒕𝒍𝒂𝒌 𝒔𝒂 𝑫𝒂𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒔𝒂𝒏 | 𝑩𝒊𝒅𝒂 𝒂𝒏𝒈 𝑺𝒆𝒂-𝒚𝒂.”
This service-learning project by the students of 𝐅𝐈𝐒𝐇 𝟏𝟓𝟎 𝐋𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲-𝐅𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐔𝐏𝐕 𝐁𝐒 𝐅𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 began with a coastal clean-up alongside barangay officials and community members along the shores of Damilisan. The activity continued at the Barangay Damilisan Day Care Center with storytelling sessions using the story written and produced by the team, entitled 𝑨𝒏𝒈 𝑫𝒂𝒎𝒈𝒐 𝒔𝒂 𝑫𝒂𝒍𝒖𝒎 𝑲𝒂𝒅𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒕𝒂𝒏, followed by interactive learning activities centered on coral reefs and marine conservation. Meanwhile, conversations with residents, concerned citizens, and barangay officials opened valuable spaces for dialogue and shared insights on the protection and conservation of Damilisan’s marine resources and sanctuary. We heeded their calls and gathered data so we can further provide inputs and recommend laws, policies, and programs to strengthen these efforts. More than discussions, these moments reflected the community’s continuing commitment to safeguarding the coastal ecosystems they call home.
To further strengthen the initiative and leave our footprints on the hearts of the children and the day care center, we 𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐞𝐧 (𝟏𝟎) 𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐬 of the storybook so it can be read again by the children, used in the future, and serve as a foundation for future conservation initiatives.
With deep gratitude, we thank the community of Brgy. Damilisan for welcoming us and allowing us to become part of your shared mission of marine conservation and coastal stewardship. It was an honor not only to share knowledge, but also to learn from the community’s experiences, perspectives, and dedication to protecting their marine sanctuary.

Dreams begin with possibilities, and for many students in Antique, May 16 - 17, 2026, became a day of discovering new paths toward their future.

At the UP Extension Campus in Pandan, Antique, the UP Visayas Aabutin ang Pangarap (AAP) Caravan 2026 brought together students and educators from Pandan and neighboring municipalities for an engaging day of learning, conversation, and opportunity. Through the collective efforts of UPV Pahinungód, UP Antiqueño, and its partners, participants explored opportunities that may help shape their academic and professional journeys.

Students gained a deeper understanding of UP degree programs, the UPCAT application process, scholarship opportunities, residential services, and practical UPCAT tips and review sessions. Adding a personal touch to the experience, UP alumna 𝐄𝐝𝐝𝐚 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐚 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐧 shared stories and insights, reminding participants that every goal begins with courage, determination, and the willingness to take the first step.

Beyond student engagement, educators also participated in the Teacher Development Program (TDP), where faculty members from the UPV Division of Professional Education facilitated learning sessions, including “𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧-𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠” by 𝐌𝐬. One of the noblest professions finds its quiet, everyday meaning in the work of a Gurong Pahinungód.

On April 10, 2026, volunteer teachers were recognized in a homecoming program at the University of the Philippines Diliman Executive House. A total of 17 volunteers were acknowledged, with five coming from UPV, namely 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐀𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐚, 𝐉𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐁. 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐚, 𝐌𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐧𝐨 𝐁𝐚𝐱𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐥𝐚, 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞 𝐏. 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐳𝐨𝐧, and 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐨𝐟𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐞 𝐒. 𝐁𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥.

The Gurong Pahinungod volunteers were acknowledged by President Angelo Jimenez and welcomed by their respective Ugnayan ng Pahinungód Directors from each constituent unit.

Beyond lesson plans and classroom sessions, these volunteer teachers dedicated their time and expertise to communities that need it most—sharing knowledge, listening to stories, and building connections that last far longer than any lecture. Hand in hand with local communities, learning becomes more than instruction; it becomes an act of service, rooted in empathy and a genuine commitment to serving the nation.
