DNHS sharpens disaster readiness in 2nd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill

Prioritizing campus safety and disaster preparedness, Dilangalen National High School (DNHS) successfully executed the 2nd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) today, June 18, 2026, at exactly 9:00 AM.

The initiative was spearheaded by the School Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (SDRRMC) to evaluate the school's emergency response capabilities and reinforce safety protocols among students, faculty, and staff.

Upon the blaring of the siren, participants immediately practiced the standard "Duck, Cover, and Hold" protocol before systematically evacuating the classrooms and proceeding to designated open-space safety zones.

The activity was conducted in compliance with the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council XII (RDRRMC XII) Memorandum No. 06, s. 2026, issued on February 11, 2026. The directive mandates all offices across all levels of governance within the Department of Education, alongside all public schools, to actively participate in the quarterly NSED.

To maximize the impact of the exercise, the SDRRMC emphasized that earthquake readiness at Dilangalen NHS extends beyond standard evacuation routines. In line with regional guidelines, the school is encouraged to implement specialized preparedness exercises tailored to the campus's unique needs assessment.

"Coordination with Local Government Units (LGUs) and community stakeholders, as well as post-drill reviews, assessments, and evaluations, shall be undertaken to ensure the effective implementation of contingency plans and to strengthen future preparedness efforts," the directive ordered.

ENROLMENT SURGE CONTINUES AT DNHS: OVER 5,000 STUDENTS RECORDED, FURTHER INCREASE SEEN FOR SY 2026–2027

Enrolment at Dilangalen National High School continues to climb for School Year 2026–2027, reaching a total of 5,260 students, reflecting a steady increase from the previous school year’s 5,142 enrollees.

Based on official data as of June 12, 2026, the Junior High School (JHS) population posted a combined total of 3,283 learners, broken down into Grade 7 (829), Grade 8 (972), Grade 9 (854), and Grade 10 (628). This marks an increase from SY 2025–2026’s JHS total of 3,209, indicating continued expansion across lower grade levels.

Senior High School (SHS) enrolment also rose to 1,977 learners, with Grade 11 at 1,022 and Grade 12 at 955. This is slightly higher than the previous year’s SHS total of 1,936.

Overall, the school recorded a net increase of 118 students, or approximately 2.3% growth, compared to SY 2025–2026.

Despite the modest percentage change compared to the 4.17% growth trend observed from SY 2023–2024 to 2025–2026, school officials attribute the continued rise in enrolment to strengthened enrolment advocacy campaigns, influx of transferees, balik-aral learners, the Alternative Learning System (ALS) program, and ongoing improvements in school facilities and services, as highlighted in the State of the School Address of former principal Dr. Ermie E. Rabara, PIV.

With the new Principal, Ricky S. Flores, P-I, education stakeholders note that while growth remains positive, the shifting distribution of learners across grade levels signals both opportunities and challenges in classroom capacity, resource allocation, and instructional delivery moving forward.

DNHS student filmmakers earn recognition at Salida Short Film Festival 2026

Student filmmakers from the Special Program in the Arts (SPA) of Dilangalen National High School (DNHS) earned recognition at the 2nd Salida Short Film Festival 2026 through their short film Pamanduan, produced by Alinaw Production.

The said film festival is a short film competition of the Provincial Government of Cotabato under Governor Emmylou “Lala” Taliño-Mendoza’s initiative that served as a platform to promote local filmmaking, encourage creative storytelling, and showcase the rich culture, heritage, and talents of Cotabateños through the art of cinema.

Leading the film's achievements was Veneracion Taupan Barat, who received the Jury Prize for Excellence in Acting for her compelling performance in the film. Her portrayal also earned her a nomination for Best Actress, highlighting her talent and dedication to the craft of storytelling through film.

In addition to the acting award, Pamanduan was nominated for Best Cinematography, recognizing the filmmakers' creativity, visual storytelling, and technical excellence behind the camera.

The recognition reflects the growing potential of DNHS student artists under the Special Program in the Arts, who continue to showcase their talents in filmmaking and other creative disciplines. Through their passion, hard work, and artistic vision, the young filmmakers demonstrated that meaningful stories from local communities can resonate with wider audiences.

The DNHS community congratulates Veneracion Taupan Barat, a resident of Brgy. Malamote, the Alinaw Production team, and all SPA student filmmakers for bringing honor to the school and for representing the creativity and artistic excellence of young Cotabateño artists at the 2nd Salida Short Film Festival 2026.

DNHS Buildings Declared Safe After Magnitude 7.8 Quake

MIDSAYAP, Cotabato. All buildings and classrooms at Dilangalen National High School have been declared safe for occupancy following inspections conducted by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (MDRRM) team and personnel from the Schools Division Office of Cotabato (SDOC).

School Principal Ricky S. Flores, P-I announced the results of the assessment on earlier today, assuring parents, students, and school personnel that no structural damage posing a risk to occupants had been found.

“All buildings/classrooms are safe for occupancy. Please wait for further instructions. Keep safe everyone,” Flores said.

Earlier at around 7:38 a.m., while students, teachers, and non-teaching personnel were gathered for the school’s flag ceremony, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck southern Philippines, causing strong ground shaking that prompted immediate safety measures.

School authorities swiftly implemented earthquake response protocols, ensuring the orderly evacuation of students and personnel to designated safe areas. No injuries were immediately reported.

The inspection, led by Engr. Joebert M. Dorliac, Engineer III, was carried out shortly after the earthquake to determine whether school facilities sustained any structural damage that could endanger occupants. Following the assessment, authorities confirmed that the campus remains safe for use.

School officials, however, advised the school community to remain alert and await further instructions from local authorities and the Department of Education as aftershocks may still occur.

Local disaster management officials continue to monitor the situation and assess the impact of the earthquake in affected areas across southern Philippines.
