B**g Go Provides Assistance to Poor Residents in Moalboal, Cebu
Senator Christopher โB**gโ Go sent his team to conduct a relief effort in Moalboal, Cebu on Friday, August 18, 2023 in partnership with the LGU through the office of Vice Mayor Paz "Lingling" Rozgoni and the Sangguniang Bayan.
During the activity held at the Sangguniang Bayan Function Hall, Go's team distributed snacks, food packs, vitamins and masks to 150 beneficiaries. The Senator also gave away a cellular phone, watch, and balls for basketball and volleyball to select recipients.
Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) provided financial assistance to qualified beneficiaries through the AICS Program.
To ensure that poor and indigent patients, have access to affordable health services, Go offered assistance to those in need of medical care and advised them to visit any of the six Malasakit Centers in the province.
Malasakit Centers bring together representatives from DSWD, Department of Health (DOH), Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO). These one-stop shops aim to support impoverished patients in reducing their hospital costs to the least possible amount.
Senator B**g Go is the principal author and sponsor of Republic Act No. 11463 or the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, which institutionalized the Malasakit Centers program. To date, 158 operational centers have helped more than seven million Filipinos nationwide, according to DOH.
โSa mga pasyente, lapitan niyo lang ang Malasakit Center dahil para โto sa inyo. Kung may hospital bill kayo, nandiyan ang mga ahensya ng gobyerno na tutulong para mabayaran ito,โ said Go.
In the province, Malasakit Centers are available at Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) and St. Anthony Mother and Child Hospital in Cebu City; Eversley Childs Sanitarium and General Hospital in Mandaue City, Talisay District Hospital, Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital, and Cebu Provincial Hospital in Carcar City.
Moreover, Go said nine Super Health Centers (SHCs) are also planned to be established in the province, including in the cities of Mandaue, Danao, Lapu-Lapu, and Bogo; and the towns of Borbon, Cordova, Moalboal, Samboan, and San Francisco.
The said centers shall offer basic medical services, such as database management, out-patient, birthing, isolation, diagnostic (laboratory: x-ray, ultrasound), pharmacy, and ambulatory surgical unit. Other available services are eye, ear, nose, and throat (EENT) service; oncology centers; physical therapy and rehabilitation center; and telemedicine.
Go was also instrumental in the passage of Republic Act No. 11717 which increased the bed capacity of VSMMC from 1,200 to 1,500 beds.
Go, Vice Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Finance, also supported the construction of multipurpose buildings in Barili, Cordova, Ginatilan, Pilar, Tabogon and Talisay City; improvement of existing roads in Alcantara, Alcoy, Alegria, Asturias, Balamban, Boljoon, Borbon, Carmen, Madrilejos, Malabuyoc, Minglanilla, Moalboal, Pinamungajan, Sibonga, Sogod, Tabogon, Tabuelan, Carcar City and Naga City; improvement of flood mitigation structures in Catmon and Tuburan; installation of street lights in Asturias, Compostela and Daanbantayan; and acquisition of ambulance units for Madridejos and Naga City.
