Behind every Morion mask is a story of heritage. 🎭

For James Moreno Liwanagan, mask-making is a family legacy. Guided by his father, master woodcarver Salvador “Buddy” Liwanagan, James continues their family legacy of intricate wood carvings rooted in the artistry of the Moriones.

September 4, 2026 | The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Marinduque, through the Negosyo Center Mogpog, in partnership with the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), successfully conducted the activity entitled “From Shore to Souvenir: Seashell Keychain Making.”
The activity aimed to assist the Samahan ng Magsasaka at Mangingisda ng Luzon Datum Agriculture Cooperative (SAMAMALUDACO) in developing a unique and marketable product that could serve as an additional source of income and help promote their locally made products in Marinduque.

A total of 20 participants from Hinanggayon, Mogpog, Marinduque, took part in the activity. Through the initiative of DTI Marinduque and DAR, the participants were trained in creating seashell keychains that they can develop and sell as souvenirs.

SAMAMALUDACO is set to introduce Luzon Datum-themed seashell keychains, which will serve as a unique souvenir representing the Geodetic Center of the Philippines, located in Mogpog, Marinduque. At present, they are expected to be the first group in the municipality of Mogpog to produce seashell keychains as a local souvenir product.

Their newly developed products will be showcased at the upcoming Mogpog Local Product Caravan, scheduled to take place during the last week of September 2026. This initiative is expected to provide SAMAMALUDACO with an opportunity to promote their products, generate additional income, and contribute to the development of local tourism and livelihood opportunities in Mogpog, Marinduque.
