The Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region X (DENR X) conducted an Environmental Symposium on September 24, 2026, at Bayabas National High School, Barangay Bayabas, Cagayan de Oro City, bringing environmental awareness and learning closer to students through a series of informative discussions on environmental protection and conservation.

The activity was formally opened by Senior High School Coordinator, Ronaldo R. Siwagan, who welcomed the DENR X resource speakers, faculty members and grade 11 and 12 participants. He highlighted the importance of engaging the youth in environmental initiatives and promoting responsible stewardship of the environment.

The symposium featured a series of lectures led by DENR Region X personnel. Shannon Lyn A. Aboc, Information Officer II and Regional Designated Youth Desk Officer, DENR X, discussed β€œYouth and Environment,” emphasizing the important role of young people in advancing environmental awareness and promoting sustainable practices.

Meanwhile, Paulyn Mae S. Laranjo, RPF, EnP, Development Management Officer II, DENR X, presented β€œBasic ENR Laws,” providing the students with an overview of environmental and natural resources laws and the responsibilities of citizens in protecting the country’s natural resources.

Junrey L. Labalan, Zoology Technician, DENR X, also discussed β€œBiodiversity and Wildlife,” introducing students to the importance of biodiversity conservation and the protection of wildlife and their habitats.

Through activities such as the Environmental Symposium, DENR X continues to strengthen environmental education among the youth and encourage them to become informed and active partners in the conservation and sustainable management of the environment and natural resources.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region X (DENR X), together with the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Energy - Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (MENRE-BARMM), celebrated the successful completion of the Environment and Natural Resources Academy (ENRA) Frontline and Basic Courses of CY 2026 through a graduation ceremony recognizing the commitment and accomplishments of the participating learners.

The ceremony featured the presentation and confirmation of graduates, led by Hermosilla C. Flores, Chief of the Administrative Division, and Paquito D. Melicor, Jr., CESO IV, Regional Executive Director.

Adding inspiration to the occasion, Clint Jell C. Ruelo, Class Valedictorian of the ENRA Basic Course CY 2026, delivered the valedictory address, reflecting on the knowledge, experiences, and lessons gained throughout the training.

Messages were also delivered by Salman H.E. Hadji Abdulsamad, MENRE Learners’ Representative, and Abdul-Jalil S. Umngan, Director II of the Forest Management Services of MENRE-BARMM. Their messages emphasized the value of continuous learning, collaboration, and strengthened capacity in advancing environmental and natural resources management.

The ceremony concluded with a closing message from the OIC Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services Arnulfo T. Osio, followed by the closing prayer led by Jean A. Ninobla, Class Valedictorian of the ENRA Frontline Course CY 2026.

The ENRA graduation ceremony underscored the importance of investing in people and strengthening the technical and professional capabilities of personnel tasked with protecting, managing, and sustaining the country’s environment and natural resources.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region X conducted its 3rd Quarter Regional Management Conference for CY 2026 on September 14–15, 2026, at the DENR-10 Main Conference Room, bringing together Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) X, Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) X, and regional and field officials to review key management concerns, discuss field monitoring observations, address operational issues, and establish ways forward in the implementation of the Department’s programs and priorities.

The two-day conference also served as an opportunity for DENR X officials and personnel to formally welcome Regional Executive Director Paquito D. Melicor, Jr., who assumed leadership of the Region on September 14, 2026. In his Welcome Message, RED Melicor expressed his hope for the support and cooperation of DENR X officials and personnel, emphasizing the importance of working together in addressing challenges and advancing the Department’s environmental mandates and priorities.

The conference featured executive briefings from the regional offices and field offices, including the MGB X and EMB X, as well as updates from the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Offices (PENROs). Discussions also focused on various issues and concerns, with proposed actions and ways forward identified to address these matters.

As part of the conference, DENR X launched the Enhanced Document Monitoring and Tracking System, highlighting the Region’s continuing efforts to strengthen its internal systems and improve document monitoring and management.

Meanwhile, Director Cleo D. Sabado-Andrada of the DENR Internal Audit Service (IAS) and Special Assistant to the Secretary for CORDS VI and NTF-ELCAC Concerns emphasized the importance of internal audit during the IAS Entry Conference. She described internal audit as the discipline of checking systems before risks become damage, underscoring its role in identifying potential risks and strengthening organizational systems. She further highlighted the Internal Audit Service as a key agent of change, valued for its independence, professional competence, and commitment to sustained good governance.
