CEPA II August 06,2024 II Purok Avocado, Banlag,Monkayo

A special orientation on Environmental Best Practices and Local Initiatives, aligned with RA 9003 and Municipal Ordinance 2018-16, was conducted at Purok Avocado, Brgy. Banlag, Monkayo. The session was led by Ms. Jenelyn S. Bangoy, the focal person of Community Education and Public Awareness (CEPA).

This initiative was spearheaded by Cadet Girl Scout Gea Jane D. Labastida, a Chief Girl Scout candidate from Monkayo National High School, representing the Davao de Oro and Davao del Norte Council-Eastern Mindanao Region for the batch 2023-2024 under the Chief Girl Scout Medal Scheme of the Girl Scout of the Philippines.

The Chief Girl Scout Medal Scheme Project highlights the significant impact of the Girl Scout on national development. It represents the pinnacle of achievement for Senior Scouts or Cadet Scouts who successfully complete community development projects in ecology, health, livelihood, or cultural heritage.

This orientation is crucial for the success of Ms. Labastida's community project, "ECOLOGY: Renovation of Purok Loading Point and Beautification of the Community," aiming to enhance and beautify our beloved community.

DOST Data Gathering about LGU Monkayo Environmental Best Practices and Local Initiatives ll July 29,2024

Personnel from the Provincial Science and Technology Office of Davao de Oro (PSTO-DDO) visited the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) today to gather data for the Regional Search for the Best Science and Technology Community Partner. This search is part of the "Community Enhancement Through Science and Technology (CEST)" project, and Monkayo has been nominated for the award.

The goal of this initiative is to recognize the best community partner of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in addressing its current needs through innovative Science and Technology solutions.

In celebration of Environmental Month 2024, which focuses on 'Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience,' comprehensive tree-growing activities took place in Barangays Tubo-Tubo, Olaycon, and Pasian.

These events were honored by the presence of OIC-MENRO, Ms. Marie Judy L. Damasin, and Forester Michael Angelo Austria. They offered valuable technical guidance on the best practices for nurturing and planting trees to ensure their healthy growth and sustainability.

Moreover, MENRO generously provided native tree seedlings, emphasizing the importance of using indigenous species for effective environmental restoration.

June 24,2025 II COA CITIZEN'S PARTICIPATORY AUDIT RE RA 9003

The Commission on Audit collaborated with the Poblacion Monkayo Coconut Farmers Association represented by the President, Ms.Isabela Malacao, a civil society organization, to conduct a Citizen's Participatory Audit on implementing RA 9003, ensuring community involvement and transparency in environmental governance.

This audit is among the identified COA Strategies for Reform, as well as a technique in conducting joint audits to make government more effective, transparent, and accountable, founded on the premise that public accountability can prosper only with a vigilant and involved citizenry.

The Local Government Unit of Monkayo celebrates International Biological Diversity Day with a tree-growing activity at the Local Conservation Area (LCA) of the municipality, the Monkayo Pagasa Carbon Forest in Brgy. Banlag, Monkayo, on May 22, 2024.

The program was attended by faculty members of Monkayo College of Arts, Sciences, and Technology (MonCAST), DENR-CENRO Monkayo personnel, sand and gravel permittees, and gasoline station owners.

The presence of each participant was honored with an opening speech by Hon. Crison T. Martesio, Chair of the Committee on Environment. This was followed by Community Education and Public Awareness (CEPA) about the celebration of International Day for Biological Diversity, presented by Mr. Elyjun Acedo, Environmental Management Specialist II (EMS II) from DENR-CENRO Monkayo. To emphasize the importance and provide guidance on how to plant the seedlings, Forester Aljean A. Maitem, a MENRO personnel, gave an orientation on planting.

The activity concluded with smiles on everyone's faces, especially since Hon. Mary Ceniza prepared arroz caldo for all participants.

River Basin Control Office (RBCO) Director Nelson V. Gorospe, along with his team and personnel from DENR Region XI and DENR Davao del Norte, conducted an on-site validation of the Saug River Protection, Enhancement, and Stabilization Project at Purok 16 - Anagase, Casoon, Monkayo, Davao de Oro. After a thorough inspection, they interviewed stakeholders and the project implementation team, including Hon. Edgar Morales, Punong Barangay of Casoon; Hon. Salvador Ocbong, Barangay Kagawad, and IP's representative; Mr. Hereco Palma, Purok Chairman of Anagase; and Mr. Buladaco, the landowner where the seedlings were planted.

Following the interviews, the validators made a courtesy call to Hon. Mayor Manuel "Way Kurat" E. Zamora, represented by Municipal Administrator Mr. Ivan Kleb N. Ulgasan, CESE. Director Gorospe also held a meeting to discuss the Spring Development Project Proposal with Hon. Rogelio Leopoldo, Punong Barangay of San Isidro; Hon. Liberato Galo, Barangay Kagawad; Mr. Jay Magpusao, MEO representative; and Mr. Michael Angelo Austria, MENRO representative. After the meeting, Director Gorospe and his team inspected the water source at Barangay San Isidro, Monkayo, Davao de Oro.
