PRO-8 Boosts Safety Measures for ‘Ligtas Paskuhan 2024’ Celebrations
CAMP KANGLEON, PALO, LEYTE – As the Yuletide Season approaches, the Police Regional Office 8 (PRO-8), under the leadership of PBGEN JAY R CUMIGAD, has announced comprehensive preparations for Ligtas Paskuhan 2024, an operation aimed at ensuring the safety and security of the public from December 16, 2024, to January 6, 2025, during the busy holiday season.
The holiday season will see an increase in travel, with many people, including returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and residents of the National Capital Region (NCR), heading to their hometowns. This surge in movement is expected to cause congestion on roads, transportation hubs, airports, and seaports. Additionally, New Year celebrations often include fireworks and firecrackers, which can pose safety risks if mishandled. The illegal use of fi****ms and potential criminal activities are also concerns during this busy period.
To address these concerns, PBGEN CUMIGAD emphasized that PRO-8 will implement enhanced anti-criminality measures and public safety services in close coordination with various government agencies, Local Government Units (LGUs), and other stakeholders. More than 2,000 personnel from PRO-8, along with 569 personnel from Augmentation Units (AUs) and 706 members of Advocacy Groups (AGs), will be deployed to secure key areas such as places of worship, major thoroughfares, transportation terminals, commercial centers, and other public gathering spots.
In areas designated for Community Fireworks Displays (CFDs) and Firecracker Zones (FZAs), approximately 2,500 PRO-8 personnel will be stationed, supported by 687 Augmentation Units and 854 Advocacy Groups.
For the duration of the Yuletide Season, the entire PRO-8 force will be placed on Heightened Alert Status to ensure maximum preparedness and responsiveness.
“We are dedicated to making sure everyone has a peaceful and safe holiday season,” PBGEN CUMIGAD said. “Through Ligtas Paskuhan 2024, we will intensify our efforts to secure key areas, prevent criminal activities, and respond swiftly to any security threat. I urge the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities to help us make this season joyful and safe for everyone.”
He also assured the public that these measures aim to ensure a peaceful and safe holiday season, with the active participation of all law enforcement agencies and local government units.
