The activity forms part of the project, โEmpowering Communities Through the Adoption of Sustainable Practices in ItikPINAS and Rice Ecosystems (ECO-ASPIRE) in Nueva Ecija: An S&T Community-Based Farming Approach,โ funded by the Department of Science and TechnologyโPhilippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD).
Mr. Randy L. Kwan, Project Leader of the ECO-ASPIRE Project, formally welcomed the participants and presented an overview of the training. He highlighted the importance of sustainable and integrated farming systems in improving farm productivity, strengthening food security, and supporting the development of local farming communities.
The training aimed to enhance the knowledge and competencies of farmer-partners on sustainable farming practices through the integration of ItikPINAS production and Special Purpose Rice CLS-2 (SPRice CLS-2) cultivation. Discussions focused on the status of the poultry industry, recommended housing systems, feeding and nutrition, production management, record keeping, and financial management for ItikPINAS production. Participants were also introduced to the farming and cultivation practices appropriate for SPRice CLS-2 production.
Ms. Jean Karla D. Julian, Assistant Professor from the Department of Animal Science, College of Agriculture, CLSU, and Farm Manager of the ItikPINAS Project, served as the resource speaker for the ItikPINAS production lecture. Meanwhile, Mr. Elmer P. Natividad, Statistical Aide from the Crops and Resources Research and Development Center (CRRDC), CLSU, discussed the overview, cultivation practices, integration strategies, harvesting techniques, and post-harvest management of SPRice CLS-2.
The participants expressed their appreciation for the conduct of the training and recognized the relevance of the topics discussed during the activity. They likewise shared that the knowledge and insights gained from integrating ItikPINAS and SPRice CLS-2 technologies would help improve their farming practices and promote sustainable agricultural production within their respective communities.
