Mahalagang alam natin ang mga developmental stages para mas maibigay natin ang tamang alaga at suporta na kailangan nila.

Pero laging tandaan: hindi ito karera.

Bawat bata ay may sariling "timing" at pacing. Ang pinaka-importante?

Nariyan tayo para gabayan at mahalin sila sa bawat hakbang ng kanilang paglaki.

𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗼𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗽 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁… 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗯𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀.

Breakfast bridges the long fasting hours of the night and prepares the body and brain for the day ahead. Research consistently shows that eating breakfast is linked to better health outcomes, improved concentration, and enhanced academic performance.

In a study using data from the 2018 Expanded National Nutrition Survey (ENNS) of the DOST-FNRI, 96-98% of Filipinos aged six years and above regularly eat breakfast, highlighting how deeply embedded this habit is in Filipino households.

However, high consumption does not always mean adequate nutrition. Typical Filipino breakfast, which is often composed of rice, eggs, fish, and coffee or chocolate drinks, does not provide at least 20% of the recommended daily intake for key nutrients such as calcium, fiber, vitamin C, and potassium. These nutrients are commonly found in milk, fruits, and vegetables, which are often lacking in morning meals.

In support of better nutrition outcomes for Filipino schoolchildren, the DOST-FNRI encourages the Department of Health-Health Promotion Bureau (DOH-HPB) and the Department of Education (DepEd) to strengthen initiatives that promote nutrient-adequate breakfast choices.

The National Nutrition Council (NNC) stands in solidarity with all sectors in celebrating the 30th Girl Child Week with the theme “𝐊𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐧 𝐊𝐨, 𝐊𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐧 𝐊𝐨: 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐤𝐚𝐬𝐲𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐨 𝐬𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐚 𝐚𝐭 𝐋𝐢𝐠𝐭𝐚𝐬 𝐧𝐚 𝐏𝐚𝐠𝐩𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐲𝐚” (𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟐𝟐–𝟐𝟖, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔), reaffirming its commitment to the protection, empowerment, and holistic development of every Filipino girl.

Aligned with this year’s theme, the NNC emphasizes that the right to make informed, safe, and independent decisions begins with access to adequate nutrition, health services, and education. Proper nutrition is foundational in ensuring that girls grow into healthy, productive, and empowered women. However, challenges such as malnutrition, food insecurity, and limited access to nutrition services continue to affect many young girls, hindering their full development and potential.

Through sustained programs and partnerships, the NNC continues to advocate for nutrition-sensitive and gender-responsive interventions that prioritize the needs of girls—especially during critical stages such as adolescence. These include promoting balanced diets, supporting adolescent nutrition programs, and strengthening community-based initiatives that create enabling environments for informed decision-making.

Let us work together to protect, empower, and uplift every girl—because her body, her rights, and her future matter. 💜

𝗕𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗼𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆?

You may come across AI-generated clips on social media featuring certain foods “explaining” what happens in your body after you eat them. These clips often convey messages like:
❌ “I am bad for you.”
❌ “I will make you gain weight.”
❌ “Avoid me at all costs.”

But here’s the truth: 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴.
When it comes to food, it's not about labeling any item as “healthy” or "unhealthy." No single food can define your overall diet. What truly matters is the bigger picture: your overall eating habits and lifestyle choices.

At the same time, some foods are higher in nutrients of concern, such as sugar, salt, and unhealthy fats. These are best consumed less often and in smaller amounts as part of a healthy diet.

The DOST-FNRI promotes the four (4) core principles of a healthy diet consistent with guidance from the World Health Organization and the Food and Agriculture Organization:
✅ 𝗔𝗱𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗰𝘆 - Consume enough calories and essential nutrients, including carbohydrates, proteins, fats, fiber, vitamins, and minerals, to meet your body’s daily needs and stay healthy.
✅ 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 - Follow the guidance of Pinggang Pinoy® by filling your plate with the appropriate proportions of carbohydrates, proteins, and fiber-rich foods.
✅ 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 - You don’t need to avoid any food completely, but foods high in sugar, salt, and fat linked to chronic diseases should be consumed in moderation.
✅ 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 - Include a variety of food groups in every meal. Eating different types of foods helps ensure you receive essential vitamins and minerals.

So, the next time you look at your plate, remember: there’s no need to fear your food. Focus on building balanced, adequate meals composed of diverse foods, and enjoy them in moderation.

pregnancy, reducing health risks, and protecting young people from abuse
and exploitation.
In the Philippines, gaps in knowledge and access to services continue to put
adolescents at risk. Studies show that many young people still lack
comprehensive, accurate information on sexual and reproductive health,
limiting their ability to make informed choices.
Investing in ASRH means empowering young people to stay healthy, pursue
their education, and reach their full potential.

The digestive system plays an important role in breaking down the food we eat and helping the body absorb nutrients needed to stay healthy and active. When we practice healthy eating habits, our digestive system works better, and our bodies receive the nourishment they need.

In observance of Proclamation No. 930, which declares the second week of March as Philippine Digestive Health Week, everyone is encouraged to adopt simple habits that support good digestion and proper nutrition, in line with this year’s theme: “Malusog na Tiyan, Masiglang Katawan!”

𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗶𝘁𝘀:
• Follow Pinggang Pinoy by eating balanced meals with vegetables, fruits, and other fiber-rich foods to support digestion
• Drink 8-10 glasses of water throughout the day
• Eat slowly and regularly to help the body digest food properly
• Stay physically active and engage in at least 20-30 minutes of physical activity per day

Small changes in our daily food choices and habits can help keep our digestive system healthy and support overall well-being.

Nutrition gaps that weaken immunity, threaten eyesight, and affect brain development remain a concern among Filipinos, particularly young children and pregnant women, according to the latest findings of the 2023 National Nutrition Survey (NNS) conducted by the Department of Science and Technology - Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI). Often referred to as “hidden hunger,” these gaps occur when people consume diets that lack essential vitamins and minerals such as vitamin A and iodine.
