The Department of Trade and Industry Region 11 (DTI 11), through its provincial and city offices, continues to intensify its price and supply monitoring across the Davao Region. This ongoing effort is aimed at ensuring that basic necessities and prime commodities (BNPCs) remain available and affordable for every household.

What exactly falls under BNPCs? Pursuant to Republic Act No. 7581 or the Price Act, the DTI regularly monitors the following manufactured and processed goods:

𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐜 𝐍𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 (𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬): Canned sardines, processed milk, instant coffee, bread, salt, cooking oil, laundry soap, detergent, and candles.

𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 (𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐬): Canned meat, vinegar, soy sauce, fish sauce, toilet soap, and batteries. (Note: Agricultural products such as fresh meat, poultry, and vegetables fall under the monitoring of the Department of Agriculture).

Based on the latest monitoring period from April 27 to May 1, 2026, the prices of these BNPCs remain generally stable. Retail establishments also report an adequate supply of goods, supported by regular distribution and delivery to ensure steady market availability.

Furthermore, no incidents of profiteering or hoarding were observed during this period.

DTI 11 reminds all retailers to strictly adhere to the published Suggested Retail Prices (SRPs) for BNPCs. The agency also encourages consumers to remain vigilant, avoid panic buying, and promptly report any violations, such as overpricing, to the nearest DTI office.

Seventeen (17) business establishments from the Province of Davao de Oro were formally recognized as 2025 Bagwis Awardees during an awarding ceremony held on April 30, 2026, at Acacia Hotel, Davao City, with the theme “𝙎𝙤𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙏𝙤𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙨 𝙀𝙭𝙘𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚.” The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 11 conferred the Bagwis Seals, certificates, and Certificates of Continuous Compliance to the awardees in recognition of their exemplary adherence to fair trade laws and sustained commitment to upholding consumer rights, thereby promoting responsible and ethical business practices in the region.

The DTI Bagwis Award is a recognition granted to establishments that consistently demonstrate excellence in fair pricing, product quality, and customer service. Classified into Bronze, Silver, and Gold categories, the program serves as a benchmark for business excellence and reinforces the government’s advocacy for a fair, transparent, and consumer-friendly marketplace. Around 200+ aspiring student-entrepreneurs gathered on April 22, 2026 at the Activity Center of Davao de Oro State College New Bataan Branch for the 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐋𝐚𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧, conducted by the Department of Trade and Industry – Davao de Oro through Negosyo Center New Bataan and OTOP.

The session sparked fresh ideas on how products can stand out through effective packaging and strategic labeling—turning simple concepts into market-ready innovations.
