To strengthen Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) in the province, a five-day intensive training on the Rapid Earthquake Damage Assessment System (REDAS) was conducted through a multi-stakeholder collaboration among the Department of Science and Technology โ Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOSTโPHIVOLCS), the Provincial Government of Davao de Oro, Alinea International - Canada through the GOV-CDR Program, and DOST Davao de Oro. The activity aimed to enhance the provinceโs capacity by equipping participants with technical knowledge and practical competencies in utilizing REDAS for earthquake and other hazard assessment for evidence-based disaster preparedness planning.
Participants included representatives from the eleven (11) municipalities of Davao de Oro, National Government Agencies, Academe, and the technical personnel from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).
The conduct of the training underscores the commitment of partner institutions to strengthening local government capabilities and promoting the application of science- and technology-based tools to enhance disaster resilience and support risk-informed decision-making at the local level.
