MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY | Sa mensahe ni Engr. Allen Christopher S. Agtarap, Principal Engineer C, CARP-CO, binigyang-diin niya na ang tunay na diwa ng Casuray Pump Irrigation Project ay higit pa sa paghahatid ng tubig sa mga palayan. Ito ay tungkol sa pagbibigay ng pag-asa, oportunidad, at mas magandang kinabukasan sa mga magsasakang patuloy na nagsisikap para sa ating agrikultura.

Sa pamamagitan ng proyektong ito, patuloy na binibigyang-lakas ang sektor ng pagsasaka at ang mga komunidad na umaasa rito. Ang bawat hakbang tungo sa mas maayos na patubig ay hakbang tungo sa mas masaganang ani, mas matatag na kabuhayan, at mas maliwanag na bukas.

SUCCESS STORY SUNDAY | AGOS NG SERBISYO, ANI NG PAG-ASA

Maliban sa pagtutok sa mga programa at proyektong pang-irigasyon, isa rin sa mga binabantayan ng National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Region V ang ng maayos na sistema ng patubig na siyang nagsisilbing tulay tungo sa pagkakaroon ng seguridad sa pagkain o food security.

Dahil dito, hindi pinalampas ni Sorsogon-Masbate IMO Manager Engr. Jessie D. Baynas na tingnan at kumustahin ang sitwasyon ng mga magsasaka sa islang lalawigan ng Masbate, na hindi lamang tanyag sa mga rancho at mga yamang-dagat kundi maging sa pagtatanim at pagsasaka.

Mula sa pagbisita at pakikipag-usap sa mga Irrigators’ Associations, hanggang sa pakikipagpulong sa mga opisyal ng iba’t-ibang ahensya at lokal na gobyerno, tiniyak ni Engr. Baynas ang patuloy na daloy ng mga programa at serbisyo na naaayon sa 7-Point Strategic Policy Agenda.

Sa pagbisitang ito, buong pagtitiyak ng NIA na magpapatuloy ang pag-agos ng pag-asa sa mga magsasaka tungo sa masaganang ani, matatag na kabuhayan, at mas ligtas na kinabukasan—isang pangarap na patuloy na isinasakatuparan sa pamamagitan ng maaasahan, napapanatili, at climate-resilient na serbisyo sa irigasyon para sa kapakanan ng magsasaka at seguridad sa pagkain ng lalawigan.

SMART SATURDAY | AGRI-PINOY: MGA FILIPINONG SALITANG DAPAT MONG MALAMAN NGAYONG BUWAN NG WIKA🇵🇭

Malapit nang matapos ang pagdiriwang ng Buwan ng Wika, kaya narito ang ilang lumang salitang Tagalog na bihira nang marinig ngunit may malalim na kahulugan sa ating kultura:

1. Banos -Isang mahaba, deretso, at sukat na piraso ng lupang sakahan o taniman

2. Suyod - Isang tradisyonal na kagamitang pambukid na gawa sa bakal o kawayan na ginagamit upang patagin at durugin ang mga patag na tumana bago taniman.

3. Pilapil - Maliit na bunton ng lupa na nagsisilbing hangganan ng mga palayan at nagpapanatili ng tubig sa loob nito.

4. Lipya - Ang matalim na bahagi ng araro (plowshare/moldboard) na siyang bumabaon at nagbubuwal ng lupa.

5. Kamalig - Isang katutubong imbakan o imbakan ng mga naaning palay o pananim (rice granary).

6. Saluyan - Ang kanal o patubig na ginawa upang daluyan ng tubig mula sa ilog patungo sa mga taniman.

7. Punla - Ang mga patubong butil ng palay na handa nang itanim sa mismong putikan.

8. Lilik - Isang tradisyonal na kagamitan (sickle) na may curved na talim na ginagamit sa paggapas ng palay at damo.

9. Hamya - Ang pagpapatag o pag-iipon ng inaning palay upang patuyuin bago ito isilong o ibayo.

Sa pagpapatuloy ng ating pagpapahalaga sa pambansang wika, mahalagang linangin hindi lamang ang mga makabagong salita kundi maging ang mga katawagang nagpayaman sa ating agrikultura at kabuhayan.

NIA REGION V JOINS NAGA CITY-WIDE CLEANUP DRIVE

As part of its corporate social responsibility, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Region V joined the city-wide cleanup drive along Panganiban Drive, Naga City.

NIA Region V employees came together to help keep the community clean, safe, and orderly by doing their part not only in providing reliable irrigation services but also in caring for the community where they serve.

Kung paramihan lamang ng mga pananim na gulay mula sa ‘Bahay Kubo’ ang labanan, hindi magpapatalo ang bawat asosasyon sa mga lalawigan ng Masbate at Sorsogon. Hindi lang kasi isang patimpalak ang ‘Gulayan sa Patubigan’, kundi isa itong tulay tungo sa masigla at maunlad na komunidad.

Tampok sa nasabing kompetisyon ang mga Irrigators’ Association na binubuo ng LAPAFARA IA Inc. at AQUILALA IA Inc. ng Bulan, Sorsogon; Jagusara Lajong Farmers IA mula sa bayan ng Juban; Sugod Bacon IA Inc. sa Sorsogon City, at Uswag Paraoma IA ng bayan ng Casiguran at ang mga IAs mula sa lalawigan ng Masbate na binubuo ng Amamaliw Alas Farmers IA at Narangasan Paranara IA, kung saan ipinamalas ng bawat isa ang sipag at galing sa pagpapatakbo ng mga gulayan sa kani-kanilang lugar.

Ngunit higit pa sa paramihan ng ani, ang 'Gulayan sa Patubigan' ay kuwento ng pag-asa, kabuhayan, at pagkakaisa na umuusbong sa bawat punlang inaalagaan ng mga magsasaka. Kaakibat ito ng misyon ng National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Region V na maghatid ng maaasahang serbisyong pang-irigasyon upang mapataas ang kita ng mga magsasaka, sapagkat kapag may sapat na tubig, sipag, at bayanihan, may buhay na umuusbong at pamayanang umuunlad.

Ipinagkaloob ng National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Albay-Catanduanes Irrigation Management Office (ACIMO) ang 10 irrigation project, kabilang ang limang repair at rehabilitation project ng communal irrigation systems at limang konstruksyon ng augmented Solar Pump Irrigation Projects (SPIPs) na nagkakahalaga ng mahigit ₱335 milyon sa 10 Irrigators’ Associations (IAs) sa 2nd at 3rd Congressional Districts ng Albay.

Ayon sa ahensya, pinangunahan ni ACIMO IMO Manager Engr. Mark Cloyd So ang turnover ceremony, kung saan ipinasa sa mga IA ang responsibilidad sa operasyon, pamamahala, at maintenance ng mga pasilidad. CSIMO UPDATES | The National Irrigation Administration–Camarines Sur Irrigation Management Office (NIA-CSIMO) successfully conducted a three-day Refresher Course on Basic Life Support (BLS) from August 25–27, 2026, at the NIA-THIRIS Hall, Sta. Lucia, Magarao, Camarines Sur, in cooperation with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Magarao. The activity aimed to refresh and strengthen the participants’ knowledge and practical skills in responding to medical emergencies and other life-threatening situations.

The refresher course provided participants with essential updates and hands-on learning on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), emergency response procedures, and other basic life-saving interventions. Through the training, personnel were further equipped to respond promptly and effectively when faced with emergencies, emphasizing the importance of preparedness and immediate action in saving lives.

The successful conduct of the activity highlights the commitment of NIA-CSIMO and MDRRMO Magarao to fostering a culture of safety, preparedness, and responsive public service. By continuously enhancing the capabilities of its personnel, the agency strengthens not only workplace safety but also its readiness to protect and serve the communities it supports.

THROWBACK THURSDAY │CULTIVATING LEGACIES: NIA SORSOGON-MASBATE HONORS THE PIONEERS OF PROGRESS

Officials and employees of the National Irrigation Administration come and go—some retire, others resign, and a few face a life cut short. Over time, the Sorsogon-Masbate Irrigation Management Office has weathered its fair share of struggles and adversities.

The successful delivery of irrigation projects to farmers relies on the sacrifices of these unsung heroes whose contributions can easily fade from memory. However, NIA Region V Sorsogon-Masbate IMO refuses to let their legacy slip away, ensuring that new generations honor the dedicated individuals who built the agency from the ground up.

Among them, Engr. Alan N. Fabricante stands out as the longest-serving IMO Manager of the Sorsogon-Masbate IMO, holding the position for 9 years within a distinguished 30-year career. Notably, he retired as the only manager in the Bicol region to be awarded Best Provincial Irrigation Manager by the NIA Central Office, an honor conferred in 2013 during the agency's 50th founding anniversary. His leadership significantly accelerated irrigation development across both provinces. Before Engr. Fabricante's transfer to Albay-Catanduanes IMO in 2019, irrigation development reached 36.14% in the island province of Masbate and 95.8% in Sorsogon.

Though leadership shifts and generations change, NIA’s core mission to build and maintain irrigation systems for agricultural growth remains steadfast. Current IMO Manager Engr. Jessie D. Baynas carries this commitment forward, advancing sustainable irrigation and empowering farming communities on the foundation built by his predecessors.

Matagumpay na nakapagtapos ang 198 benepisyaryo ng Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) sa 10 hanggang 15 araw na paglilinis at pagsasaayos ng mga pasilidad ng irigasyon sa Sto. Domingo, Albay. Isinagawa ang proyekto sa pamamagitan ng pagtutulungan ng Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) at National Irrigation Administration–Albay Catanduanes Irrigation Management Office (NIA-ACIMO).

Ayon sa NIA-ACIMO, pangunahing isinagawa ng mga benepisyaryo ang clearing at desilting ng mga irrigation facilities upang mapanatili ang maayos na daloy ng tubig at makatulong sa operasyon ng mga pasilidad na nagsisilbi sa mga komunidad at magsasaka sa lugar. NIA ACIMO Leads Mass Turnover of 10 Irrigation Projects in Albay

More than P335 million worth of irrigation projects were formally turned over to 10 irrigators’ associations (IAs) in the 2nd and 3rd Congressional Districts of Albay during a turnover ceremony held on August 24, 2026.

The projects, implemented by the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Albay-Catanduanes Irrigation Management Office (ACIMO), include the repair and rehabilitation of the Upper Libod Communal Irrigation System (CIS) CY 2025, Tagas-Alcala-Quilicao CIS CY 2025, Marigondon CIS CY 2025, Cagsawa CIS CY 2025, and Cabraran Pequeño CIS CY 2025.

Also included are the construction of augmented Solar Pump Irrigation Projects (SPIPs) at Caratagan CIS, San Agustin CIS, Cabilogan-San Juan RIS, Ipanao SPIP (Cagbacong Pump No. 3), and Itaran SPIP.

The turnover was led by NIA ACIMO IMO Manager Engr. Mark Cloyd G. So, signifying the transition of the irrigation facilities to the respective farmer-beneficiaries for their continued operation, management, and maintenance.

The event was attended by Ako Bicol Party-list Representative Alfredo Garbin Jr.; Mr. Romualdo Elvira, Jr., representative of the Office of the Albay 2nd District Representative; NIA Region V officials, including IDS Chief Ms. Marilou Oatemar; IA Federation President Mr. Melanio B. Bañares Jr.; and other guests and stakeholders.

During the ceremony, IA presidents expressed their gratitude to NIA and the national government for providing reliable irrigation facilities expected to improve water availability, farm productivity, and the livelihood of farming communities through agricultural value-adding projects (AVPs).

A formal awarding of certificates of turnover was also conducted, officially entrusting the management and maintenance of the completed irrigation facilities to the respective irrigators’ associations.

In his message, Engr. So emphasized that the turnover marks not only the completion of the projects but also the beginning of the farmers’ responsibility in ensuring their sustainability. He encouraged the farmer-leaders to properly manage and maintain the facilities and continue working closely with NIA to address operational concerns and preserve the functionality of the irrigation systems.

The mass turnover of the 10 irrigation projects reflects NIA ACIMO’s continuing commitment to providing reliable and sustainable irrigation services, strengthening agricultural productivity, and empowering farming communities across Albay.
