13 years ago, the Raul Roco Library conducted its 3rd Raul Roco Lecture entitled, “Library: A Place for Every Bicol Piece.”
The occasion was graced by the late Atty. Antonio Santos, Director of the National Library of the Philippines, whose presence highlighted the importance of the event and the library’s continuing commitment to the preservation and promotion of Bicolano heritage.
The lecture brought together prominent Bicolano writers and speakers, including Dr. Danilo Gerona, Dr. Zaldy Anrique, Dr. Randy Bacares, Jose Fernando Obias, poet-artist Frank Peñones, and Lourdes Nieva, along with public librarians from Camarines Sur and library science students from the University of Nueva Caceres.
More than a lecture, the event became an important milestone in the library’s commitment to Bicol. It paved the way for the institutionalization of the Bikoliana Section—a dedicated space for Bicol’s books, writers, history, culture, arts, and literature.
A memorable gathering that helped strengthen the Raul Roco Library as a home for Bicolano knowledge, stories, creativity, culture, and identity.
