Synopsis: At 3:00 AM today, the center of Severe Tropical Storm "OPONG" (BUALOI) was estimated based on all available data at 465 km East of Guiuan, Eastern Samar (10.8Β°N, 130.0Β°E), with maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h near the center and gustiness up to 135 km/h. It is moving West Northwestward at 20 km/h. Southwest Monsoon affecting the western section of the country.
Forecast Weather Conditions:
>Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, and Samar will experience stormy weather caused by STS OPONG. Possible floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains. Minor to moderate threat to life and property due to strong winds.
>The rest of Bicol Region, including Polillo Islands, , , , Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Aklan, Capiz, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte will experience rains with gusty winds caused by STS OPONG. Possible floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains. Minimal to minor threat to life and property due to strong winds.
>Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro will experience occasional rains caused by the Southwest Monsoon. Possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains.
>Central Visayas, Isabela, Aurora, and the rest of Caraga will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms caused by STS OPONG. Possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains.
>Metro Manila, rest of Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, rest of Central Luzon, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Palawan, and will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms caused by the Southwest Monsoon. Possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.
>The rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms. Possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
>The rest of Mindanao will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms caused by the Southwest Monsoon. Possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
Forecast Wind and Coastal Water Conditions:
>The eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao will have moderate to strong winds from Northwest to Southwest. Coastal waters will be Moderate to Rough / (2.5 to 3.4 meters).
>The eastern section of Luzon will have moderate to strong winds from Northeast to Northwest. Coastal waters will be Moderate to Rough / (1.5 to 3.0 meters).
>The rest of Luzon will have moderate winds from Southwest to Southeast. Coastal waters will be Moderate / (1.5 to 2.5 meters).
>The rest of Visayas and Mindanao will have light to moderate winds from Southwest to West. Coastal waters will be Slight to Moderate / (0.6 to 2.1 meters).
