PNP: FIRST DAY OF LOCAL CAMPAIGN PERIOD FOR MAY 2025 ELECTIONS GENERALLY PEACEFUL
The Philippine National Police (PNP) reports that the first day of the local campaign period, which officially began on March 28, 2025, for the May 2025 National and Local Elections, has been generally peaceful, with no major incidents reported nationwide.
Under the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the government remains committed to ensuring a safe, orderly, and credible election process. The PNP, in coordination with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and other law enforcement agencies, has implemented strict security measures to maintain peace and prevent any election-related incidents.
Candidates for the House of Representatives, Provincial, City, and Municipal positions have officially launched their campaign activities. The PNP-COMELEC checkpoints nationwide continue to be operational, along with the strict enforcement of the nationwide gun ban to curb potential election-related violence.
PNP Chief, Police General Rommel Francisco Marbil, assured the public of the PNP’s commitment to securing the entire campaign period until its conclusion on May 10, 2025.
"The PNP is fully prepared to safeguard the democratic process and ensure a peaceful campaign period. We will not tolerate any form of election-related violence or illegal activities that threaten the integrity of the elections. Our security forces are ready to respond to any untoward incidents," he stated.
The PNP also reminds all candidates, political parties, and the general public that vote buying and vote selling are serious offenses under Batas Pambansa Blg. 881 or the Omnibus Election Code of the Philippines. Those caught engaging in such illegal acts will face legal consequences.
As the election season continues, the PNP urges the public to remain vigilant, report any election-related violations, and fully cooperate with authorities to uphold a clean, honest, and peaceful electoral process.
